Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) Moses Kuria has promised to quit politics if he loses the Kiambu gubernatorial race in the upcoming August 9 general elections.

In a statement on Tuesday, July 12, the lawmaker dismissed reports that had surfaced regarding Kuria submitting his name alongside other nominees of his Chama Cha Kazi party for consideration to be nominated to Parliament.

He affirmed that he had not nominated himself as an MP, adding that he was focused on being elected as the next Kiambu governor and helping Deputy President William Ruto be elected as Kenya's next Head of State.

Kuria promised to leave politics in case he loses the elections, stating that there was more to it.

"The law is very clear. If you vie for an elective seat, you can not forward your name for nomination on the party list. It is simply not true that I have forwarded my name to be nominated as an MP.

"My single-minded focus is to be elected Governor of Kiambu County and to have William Ruto elected as President. Both outcomes are assured and what remains is a formality. In the very unlikely event, if I am not elected, you will not see me in politics again let alone seeking to be nominated. There is life beyond politics," he wrote.

Kuria, alongside his running mate, Faith Mwaura, will face Kimani Wamatangi (UDA), James Nyoro (Jubilee), William Kabogo (Tujibebe), and independent candidate Patrick Wainaina, popularly known as 'jungle'.

In ODM, Chairperson John Mbadi's name was submitted for nomination to the August House. Mbadi, who was in the Homa Bay County gubernatorial race, had dropped his bid in favour of Gladys Wanga.

The Raila Odinga-led party nominated National Elections Board (NEB) chairperson Catherine Mumma to the senate.

Other ODM nominees of the National Assembly include Irene Mayaka, Umulkher Mohamed, Harold Kipchumba, Mary Mwami, Hillary Ochieng, Naomi Wainaina, Kantim Mwaniki and Hulda Odhiambo.

Among those forwarded for nomination by DP Ruto include Bomet Woman Rep Joyce Korir, Starehe MP Charles Njagua, and Nairobi Woman Representative aspirant Karen Nyamu.

Others include Laikipia Woman Rep Cate Waruguru, her Narok counterpart Soipan Tuya (UDA) and Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko. Nominated MP David Ole Sankok was the surprise name missing from the picks.
