Dramatic scenes unfolded on Thursday, November 30 as a traffic police officer opened fire on Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives during an operation conducted at the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu Road which saw the arrest of three officers.
Footage from a bodycam mounted on one of the EACC detectives seen by Viral Tea showed him and his colleagues driving near a roadblock on the Karagita Junction in Naivasha, Nakuru County on the way to ambush the traffic officers.
After conducting due reconnaissance and confirming their suspicions, the detectives crept up on the officers, with the bodycam detective using the vehicle's back right door to knock down one of the traffic cops to the ground.

The detective then swooped in on the officer and pinned him down, identifying himself as an EACC detective before moving to restrain him.
Meanwhile, the two other traffic officers opted to flee the scene rather than engage the sleuths who were hot on their heels.
One of them fired in the air to seemingly startle the detectives but was unsuccessful as he and his colleague were subdued.
"During the operation, a scuffle ensued when two other police officers resisted arrest and escaped into the nearby bushes aided by one who was firing at EACC detectives who were pursuing them," a source at EACC was quoted by Citizen Digital.
During the scuffle and shooting, the two fugitive police officers took away some of the money that had been recovered by EACC detectives amounting to about Ksh15,000 collected in one hour.
Following their arrest, the three officers were escorted to Integrity Police Station at EACC headquarters to record statements. They are currently being held at Kilimani Police Station pending arraignment.
EACC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Twalib Mbarak, in an address to the media, stated that anti-graft detectives were conducting sting operations to arrest officers on their radar for allegedly extorting bribes from motorists.
Following the incident, Mbarak proposed for Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to disarm all traffic police officers across the country.
This is on the grounds that some rogue traffic police officers are using state-issued firearms to confront EACC detectives when they are caught soliciting bribes on roads.
"Our position as EACC, in coordination with the IG, is that traffic police officers should never be armed unless it is extremely necessary," he stated.
