The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has appointed Massa Hamisi Salim to act as the temporary Director of Criminal Investigations as the search for a permanent candidate continues.

Salim's appointment was announced on Thursday evening, September 29 as NPSC continues the search for a suitable replacement for George Kinoti, who had served in the capacity.

He will hold the post for the next 14 days pending the announcement of Kinoti's successor.

"NPSC appoints Massa Hamisi Salim as the Director of Criminal Investigation in an acting capacity until the position is filled substantively and competitively in at least 14 days," read the statement in part.

In a job advert posted on Thursday, September 29, the commission indicated that it is mandated to recommend to the President persons for appointment as Director of Criminal Investigations.

President Ruto made public the announcement of Kinoti's resignation during a media briefing at State House in Nairobi when he unveiled his new-look Cabinet on Tuesday, September 27.

"I have received the resignation of DCI Kinoti. I have directed the National Police Service (NPS) to proceed with advertising that position. Meanwhile, they should get somebody to act in that position," he said.

NPSC, therefore, invited applications from suitably qualified persons who wish to be considered for the position of Director of Criminal Investigations.

"Pursuant to section 30 as read together with sections 29 and 30 of the NPS Act No.11A of 2011 Revised (2017), the Commission is mandated to recommend to the President persons for appointment as Director of Criminal Investigations.

"A person shall be qualified for appointment as the Director of Criminal Investigations if the person has had a distinguished career in his/her field and has knowledge and experience in criminal investigation or policing," NPSC stated in its job advert in part.
