The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, October 31 grilled Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket in Nakuru after he was summoned.

The detectives also summoned West Pokot Senator Julius Murgor and Sigor MP Peter Lochakapong.

In a letter seen by Viral Tea, Rift Valley Region DCI coordinator Charles Kanyuira revealed that the investigative agency was probing a case of incitement to violence contrary to section 391 of the Penal Code.

"In exercise of powers conferred upon me under section 52(1) of the National Police Act of 2011, I Awino Ong'ale a police investigator attached at DCI RCIO's office Rift Valley, do hereby summon you Hon. Kamket Kassait William to appear before me on the 31st day of October 2023 at exactly 0900hrs without fail for purposes of interrogation and statement recording as provided for under section 52(4 &5) of the National Police Service Act in regards to your alleged involvement in the said offence," read the letter in part.

However, the exact statements made by the leaders and allegations being referred to by the DCI were not captured in the letter.

At around 9 a.m., the three leaders presented themselves at the DCI offices accompanied by lawyer Kipkoech Ngetich, Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto, and West Pokot Woman Representative Rael Kasiwai.

The trio did not reveal details of the summons by the time of publishing this article.

Kamket, who vied on a KANU ticket, retained his seat in the 2022 general elections after he got 17,933 votes to floor former MP Asman Kamama of Kenya Union Party (KUP), who got 13,037 votes. Peter Ng’elelyo of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) got a paltry 110 votes.

He became the only Azimio-One Kenya MP in Baringo County, a UDA stronghold. The other constituencies in Baringo County were all swept by UDA candidates Reuben Kiborek (Mogotio), Musa Sirma (Eldama Ravine), Joshua Kandie (Baringo Central), Joseph Makilap (Baringo North), and Charles Kamuren (Baringo South).

The summons come at a time when the National Police Service (NPS) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) are doing a joint operation in the North Rift Region.

Incidents of violence have been witnessed in the region following a series of bandit attacks in the area.

On Friday, September 22, Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki issued a shoot-to-kill order to all security officers tackling armed bandits in the troubled Baringo County.

Kindiki directed the security officers to use lethal force on any criminal who tries to use a weapon to harm or shoot at them.

"Any criminal that will try to use a weapon to shoot or try to harm a security officer, will go on a one-way trip. We will take him on a journey where he won't come back and we will buy him a one-way ticket," he announced.
