Amidst the fanfare surrounding the visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla at State House, Nairobi, Kenya, a small hitch occurred when a Kenyan soldier slipped and fell as President William Ruto welcomed the British royalty.

In the video seen by Viral Tea, His Majesty and President Ruto were walking outside the State House building towards the courtyard while engaged in conversation as the soldier was on her way to open the car door for the Royal couple.

However, in what observers and members of the public can attribute to the heavy rains that pounded Nairobi city in the morning hours, the soldier slipped and fell, seemingly disrupting the conversation between the King and Ruto.

Here is the video:

Her colleague, seeing that she was in danger, had tried to assist her but she picked herself up very quickly and proceeded to open the left back door of the Land Rover Discovery ferrying the King and Queen for the former to get in.

The Head of State and First Lady Rachel Ruto received King Charles and Queen Camilla upon their arrival at State House on Tuesday morning, October 31.

The Royal Couple were honoured with a 21-gun salute at State House after they arrived in the country on Monday night, October 30.

The procession then proceeded to Uhuru Gardens where King Charles was scheduled to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior. The King was also scheduled to visit the site where Kenya declared her independence.

Regarding high-profile visits by Heads of State, soldiers are expected to conduct themselves with precision to ensure the safety of visiting dignitaries and maintain a certain level of professionalism in line with the country's disciplined forces professionalism.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will undertake a State Visit to Kenya, from Tuesday, October 31 to Friday, November 3, 2023, to celebrate the warm relationship between the two countries and the strong and dynamic partnership they continue to forge.

"The visit is at the invitation of President Ruto and comes as Kenya prepares to celebrate 60 years of independence. His Majesty’s first visit to a Commonwealth nation as King is therefore to the country in which Queen Elizabeth II’s reign began, having acceded to the throne in Kenya in February 1952," the statement by the British High Commission read in part.

The King will also attend an event to celebrate the life and work of the Nobel Laureate the late Professor Wangari Maathai, together with Wangari’s daughter, Wanjira Mathai.

The visit will also acknowledge the more painful aspects of the UK and Kenya’s shared history, including the State of Emergency (1952-1960).
