Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday night, April 13 gunned down two suspected gang members following a fierce shootout in a residential area in Nakuru City.

In a statement, the DCI revealed that the law enforcement officers embarked on an operation to arrest the gang following a tip-off from members of the public.

"Following a spate of violent robberies within Nakuru North Sub-County where in every incident a rifle was used, a team comprising officers from DCI HQS, DCI Nakuru North and OCS Lanet in a mission to track down the perpetrators yesterday recovered the L1A1 rifle that was being used after a fatal shootout with an armed gang," stated the DCI in part.

Acting on intelligence that an armed gang was sighted at Nakuru's Umoja Estate, the team conducted a sting operation in the area where the four-man gang was ambushed and ordered to surrender.

However, in defiance, the gang responded by opening frenzied fire on the officers triggering a retaliation in self-defence.

"Two gang members were fatally injured while two others managed to escape with suspected gunshot wounds. Their pursuit is underway," added the DCI.

From the felled robbers, an L1A1 rifle loaded with four rounds of ammunition, a panga, dagger, hammer, a pair of pliers, balaclavas and spent cartridges were recovered.

The scene was processed by the Crime Scene Investigators and the bodies were moved to the Nakuru Annex Morgue awaiting identification.

This comes days after three suspects linked to the shooting of a businessman in Eastleigh, Nairobi who was robbed of Ksh4.1 million as captured on CCTV footage that went viral on Saturday, March 30 were found dead.

The bodies of the two suspects as well as a woman alleged to be a partner were found in different areas in Nairobi and Kiambu Counties and taken to the City Mortuary.

The bodies of the first suspect and the lady partner were found around the Juja and Lari areas in Kiambu County whereas the second suspect’s lifeless body was retrieved from a place not disclosed.

According to post mortems conducted at the facility, the three died by drowning owing to large amounts of water visible in the lungs, indicating that the trio may have been murdered.

However, the mystery behind their death is yet to be unravelled.
