The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has urged Kiambu gubernatorial candidate, Moses Kuria, to report to the nearest police station over sensationalist claims of a plot to rig the August 9 general elections.

On Monday, August 8, the Gatundu South MP claimed that there was a plan by government officials to disrupt the elections in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

Specifically, he claimed that 40 trucks were carrying marked ballot papers and had left the Nakuru State Lodge to various destinations ahead of the elections, further leaking details of one of the alleged vehicles.

"Top Alert!! 40 trucks with marked ballot papers will leave State Lodge Nakuru to various destinations in the next 20 minutes. Media, public please stop them. Most of them have GK registration numbers.

"Uasin Gishu people. One of the vehicles to leave State House Nakuru for Eldoret with marked ballots is KcW 853T," the statements on his social media accounts read.

The DCI has asked Kuria to shed more light with regards to the alleged plot

"The attention of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has been drawn to a sensational social media post attributed to Gatundu South M.P Hon. Moses Kuria, insinuating very serious allegations in respect to election offences," said the DCI in a statement.

"The Directorate is urging the legislator to urgently report to any police station or DCI office close to him, to help with investigations for appropriate and immediate action."

Kuria's sentiments stemmed from Deputy President William Ruto's claims that the government was planning to disrupt the August 9 elections to the point of roping in President Uhuru Kenyatta, some police bosses and a section of journalists.

Speaking outside his Karen office on Thursday, August 4, Ruto named Rift Valley Regional Commissioner, Maalim Mohammed, Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Samson Ojwang, Uasin Gishu's Stephen Kihara and Esustus Mbui of Nakuru as individuals who have been propagating inciteful and hate messages across the country.

"They are part of this scheme. They are the people holding night meetings to orchestrate and plan conflict among Kenyans and unfortunately, the President of Kenya is aware," he said.

However, the Interior Ministry hit back at his wild claims that there was a plot to cause violence and interfere with the polls, which was hatched in the Nakuru State lodge.

"The last time I set foot in Nakuru was two years ago. It is very shameful for a deputy president to even imagine that we were in Nakuru plotting anything.

"It is shameful for a deputy president to lie in front of cameras on a grave thing like this one," noted Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho.

"These unsubstantiated allegations are consistent with frequent, unfounded, and unconscionable attacks against the government and public officers by His Excellency the Deputy President. The government is run through established and well-known structures and accountability channels.

"It is not a secret society cloaked in conspiracies and dark agendas. As a senior member of the same Government, His Excellency the Deputy President ought to know and manifest an understanding of how the Government’s decisions are arrived at and executed," noted Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i.
