Fresh Twist Emerges In Death Of Wajir MCA Yusuf Ahmed
Two DNA tests revealed on Thursday, October 24 that the body recently recovered from Lake Yahud is not that of the MCA.

The case surrounding the death of Wajir Member of the County Assembly (MCA) and Minority Leader Yusuf Ahmed has taken a sudden twist, days after a body was discovered in the Lake Yahud area in Wajir County suspected to belong to him.
Two DNA tests revealed on Thursday, October 24 that the body recently recovered from Lake Yahud is not that of the MCA. This was confirmed by his family, who said pathologists confirmed the result was negative.
Two pathologists were involved in the case, a private doctor hired by the family and a government doctor. They took samples from the mother of the missing legislator, his two brothers, and tissue from the body currently preserved at Wajir Hospital Mortuary.
“The results show that the body is not his,” a family source told the Nation.

The unidentified body at the Wajir mortuary, which is six feet and two inches tall, is of Somali origin. Additionally, the body was not burned and no body parts were chopped off, according to the pathologist, but due to decomposition, some parts appear badly damaged.
The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the face, which led to internal bleeding in the head.
The DNA outcome further deepens the mystery surrounding the disappearance of the MCA who went missing on September 13, 2024, following an alleged abduction in Nairobi by unknown individuals.
Despite the discovery of the body, the burial was halted until the DNA tests were conclusively carried out. There had been a stand-off among family members and some local leaders following concerns that the badly mutilated body, could not have been that of Ahmed.
Though some relatives had revealed that the corpse preserved at the Wajir County Referral Hospital morgue was that of Ahmed, others held a contrary view. The face was disfigured with some parts missing, making identification a difficult task.
Speaking at Wajir Referral Hospital, leaders maintained that they were not certain that the recovered body was that of their missing colleague. They expressed their deep concern over the prolonged absence of the MCA and urged the national government and security agencies to expedite investigations and bring the matter to closure.
“The community is demanding answers, and it is the duty of the government to reassure the public by finding out the truth behind the MCA’s disappearance,” said Wajir Senator Abass Sheikh.
According to Eldas MP Adan Keynan, DNA samples were sent to Nairobi for further analysis to be completed before any burial arrangements proceed. "Having 100 per cent certainty on the identity of the body will bring clarity and provide closure for both the family and the community,” noted the lawmaker.
About a week ago, the family through lawyer Danston Omari said they believed their kin was abducted by police officers. “To date, the government seem not bothered to tell us his whereabouts yet from accounts from Kioko (taxi driver), my client was abducted by people carrying AK 47 rifles who identified themselves as police officers,” Omari disclosed.
The latest turn of events come a day after the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) alongside the Inspector General of Police was on Wednesday, October 23 compelled to expedite investigations into the disappearance of the MCA.
