Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was made to redo his Solemn Affirmation of due execution of office for the Deputy President after he nervously slipped during the important activity.

While taking his oath at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani on Tuesday, September 13, that was being administered by the Chief Registrar of Judiciary Ann Amadi, Gachagua appeared to miss some words, which the razor-sharp Amadi took notice.

Gachagua was taking the oath of execution before he was cut short by the registrar of the Judiciary, who asked him to repeat the oath as the crowd of 60,000 went wild with his blooper.

“May I request that you take it again, please? I am sorry let’s take it again,” Ms Amadi told Gachagua with a smile on her face.

Gachagua recollected himself and repeated the oath, this time ensuring that he did not miss a word.

“I do swear that I will always truly and diligently serve the people and the Republic of Kenya in the Office of the Deputy President that I will diligently discharge my duties and perform my functions in the said office to the best of my judgement,” Gachagua said as he took the oath of office.

He continued, “I will at all times when so required faithfully and truly give my counsel and advice to the President. I will do justice to all without fear, favour, affection and ill-will.”

Gachagua took the oath alongside his wife Dorcas Rigathi before he proceeded to sign the oath certificate of allegiance of office of the Deputy President and that of the execution of his mandate

This was after William Ruto took his two oaths as President of the Republic of Kenya in the presence of his wife, Mama Rachel Ruto.

Ruto took two oaths of office, beginning with the oath of allegiance and then the execution of the office of the president.

"I, William Samoei Ruto, in full realisation of the high calling I assume as President of the Republic of Kenya, do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the  Republic of Kenya;

"... that I will obey, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of Kenya as by law established and all other laws of the Republic; and that I will protect and uphold the sovereignty, integrity and dignity of the people of Kenya. So help me God," the president read, holding the Bible in hand.

Ruto appended his signature before Attorney General Kihara Kariuki and the President of the Supreme Court and signed the certificate of inauguration.

The Chief Justice then presented the certificate to President Ruto, the last process of his assumption of office.

Koome invited the outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta, accompanied by the Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi to hand him the tools of power -  the Sword of Honour and the Constitution.
