Police in Bomet have launched a hunt for a man from Silibwet, Bomet County who on Friday, March 1 brutally murdered four people, including his two children.

In the horrifying incident, the suspect, a 45-year-old, allegedly armed himself with a machete before going on a killing spree, with his targets also including a relative's child, and a househelp - in a chilling act of violence.

In the process, he indiscriminately hacked the victims who succumbed to injuries sustained during the attack.

Confirming the incident, Bomet Central sub-county Deputy Police Commander Ali Bashir stated that the victims included the man's 2-year-old daughter, 16-year-old son, 8-year-old niece and 16-year-old house help.

"The man went to his residence while his wife was in Silibwet town. He was armed with a Maasai machete and immediately pounced on his daughter slashing her under the cheek," he told Citizen Digital.

"He proceeded to kill his niece in a similar fashion before inflicting multiple cuts on the househelp. The 16-year-old boy attempted to flee but Kilel caught up with him."

The police are yet to establish how he got hold of the murder weapon, which has been seized as evidence.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to the Tenwek hospital mortuary for preservation.

The Deputy Police Commander in the region has put together a team to search for the man, who fled the scene before the police could apprehend him. 

In another similar incident on February 24, a man is suspected to have killed four of his family members in the Milenya area in Muhoroni Kisumu County. 

According to police reports, the man stabbed and killed his five-month pregnant wife and his son to death, before running away.

The man then proceeded to his uncle’s house a few metres away, where he killed him and his wife on the spot, before escaping through a sugarcane shamba a short distance from the scene of the crime. 

In January 2023, a middle-aged man beheaded his two daughters in Kiobegi Sub location, Kisii County in shocking circumstances and dumped their bodies on the farm.
