Nairobi County's Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria on Tuesday, October 29 urged members of the public to assist with CCTV footage to help expose imposters taking advantage of the crackdown on noise pollution to swindle innocent Nairobians.

The County official released a 3-minute video clip warning Nairobi residents to beware of the imposters, which he revealed have targeted some of the business owners and defrauded Kenyans of their hard-earned money, sometimes running into hundreds of thousands of shillings.

Mosiria revealed that the imposters pose as Nairobi County environment officers and embark on illegal crackdowns before asking for kickbacks from unsuspecting business owners.

He further revealed that others claim to have been sent by County Government officials to take bribes, only for the business owners to end up being conned.

Mosiria called on business people to desist from paying bribes as it is against the law, emphasizing that in every scenario where legitimate Nairobi County Government officers arrest persons accused of breaching environmental laws, due legal process is followed.

The county chief environment officer stressed that his department has prepared the charge sheets for all those who have been arrested and presented them in court.

“This is the last warning to all those imposters that go out to harass business owners by impersonating Nairobi County Government environment officers,” he warned.

“We as The County Government of Nairobi under the leadership of Governor Sakaja do not receive bribes. This is a clean government, the cleanest government we have around,” he stated stressing that his job is to enforce noise pollution regulations."

Mosiria called on individuals who have fallen prey to such imposters to report to the nearest police station for further investigations. “Our work is not to frustrate, your business and take your money,” he affirmed.

“Our work as the government is just to respond to noise pollution from businesses that breach environmental pollution,” he defended his role and that of the officers, highlighting that during official crackdowns, he is always accompanied by officers from various agencies including police officers, officials from the Liquor and Licensing Board and the National Environment Management Authority of Kenya (NEMA).

The official warned persons responsible for running restaurants, pubs and churches to observe environmental laws especially now when candidates are sitting for national examinations.

Mosiria's acts in leading crackdowns on noisy churches and nightclubs, all of which border residential areas, have received significant praise on social media, with residents urging him to keep up the good work of restoring order in the city and save them from the vice that has tormented them for years.
