Govt Increases ID Fees To Ksh2,000, Passport Fees To Ksh7,500

The government has announced an increase in fees for replacing identity cards from Ksh100 to Ksh2,000.

In a Gazette notice issued by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, the government also proposed increasing the fee for first-time ID applicants to Ksh1,000.

Kenyans seeking to change their particulars in their ID card will be forced to part ways with Ksh1,000 while those seeking identification reports will have to pay Ksh1,000 up from Ksh300.

Getting a civil servants' card will now cost one Ksh1,000 from Ksh100. A staff badge will cost one Ksh1,000 from Ksh300.

Passports

The government also raised the fees for ordinary passports from Ksh4,500 to Ksh7,500, for an ordinary 34-page passport.

For a 50-page passport, the price has been reviewed upward from Ksh6,000 to Ksh9,500. For a 66-page passport, the price increased from Ksh7,500 to Ksh12,000.

Replacing a lost passport will now cost Ksh20,000 from the previous Ksh12,000 while replacing a valid mutilated passport will cost Ksh20,000 from Ksh10,000.

Visas

The fees for single journey visas have been raised from Ksh7,572 to Ksh15,145 while the fee for a multiple journey visa goes up from Ksh15,145 to Ksh75,725.

Extending a visa, which was initially free will now set one back Ksh30,290 while the application for visas for Kenyan children which was also free will now cost the same price.

Birth & Death Certificates

Furthermore, the charges for acquiring a birth certificate were raised from Ksh50 to Ksh200, the same as acquiring a death certificate.

Late registration of a birth certificate will now cost you Ksh500 from Ksh150 which also applies to the late registration of a death certificate.

Among the other revised charges include re-registration of birth certificate which will cost Ksh1,000 up from Ksh90, while amendments of both birth and death certificates will cost Ksh1,000 from Ksh30.

Other Charges

Declaring dual citizenship was initially free which allowed Kenyans to hold citizenship in another country. However, those intending to do so for the first time will now have to pay Ksh10,000.

Regaining citizenship under Section 10 was priced at Ksh5,000, which has now been increased to Ksh50,000.

Passport endorsements went up from Ksh500 to Ksh10,000 while renunciation increased from Ksh20,000 to Ksh50,000.

Gaining citizenship by means of marriage will now cost one Ksh100,000 from Ksh30,000 while citizenship by registration for lawful residence will cost one Ksh1 million from Ksh200,000.

For permanent residence, one processing to be a former citizen of Kenya will pay Ksh50,000 from Ksh10,000 while lawful residence will be charged at the same price.

For issuance, a former citizen of Kenya will pay Ksh100,000 from Ksh50,000 while for lawful residence, one pays Ksh200,000, which is an increase from Ksh50,000.

Processing for children of Kenyan citizens born outside the country will cost Ksh200,000 from Ksh100,000 while issuance for the same will cost Ksh1 million from Ksh500,000.

Processing spouses of Kenyan citizens will be charged Ksh50,000 from Ksh5,000.
