Grace Kuria Kanja, an experienced broadcast journalist with over six years in the media industry, is heading to TV47.

A source at the Cape Media-owned TV station confirmed the move to Viral Tea on Wednesday, July 5, on condition of anonymity.

The source added that she is expected to join the fast-growing station under the media house which also owns Radio 47 sometime in July 2023.

However, it was unclear whether or not she would leave the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) where she has been working as a Broadcast Journalist since September 2021.

TV47 on Tuesday, July 5 shared a promo video teasing its viewers of a revamped newsroom as it seeks to take the competition to established players such as Citizen TV, NTV, and KTN among others.

"Coming soon. A new, revamped, multimedia newsroom, dedicated to bringing you #UntoldStories...Stay tuned," hinted the station.

In the video, a woman in a blue dress is seen entering its newsroom and getting down to filing reports as well as being handed a script whose headline read '9 pm weekend news' with the woman working on it, seemingly ahead of the news bulletin.

Upon inquiry, the source had confirmed that the woman is Kuria, though Viral Tea couldn't independently verify if she would take up the 9 pm weekend bulletin slot at the station.

Viral Tea reached out to the former KTN News anchor for confirmation and she replied with "Unfortunately I can't confirm or deny."

Kuria possesses great knowledge in reporting for TV and Digital media, Presenting/Anchoring, Producing and Editing. The move marks a comeback to national television screens for her, having joined BBC on September 23, 2021, just three days after she announced her departure from China Global Television Network (CGTN).

At BBC, she was a presenter for The She Word, a show dealing with stories connecting today's African women.

While announcing the move, she shared a picture of her standing right next to BBC’s logo at its offices in Nairobi, surrounded by pictures of some of the most significant African stories ever told.

“Not by power, not by might, But by the Spirit of the living God, Anything is possible. Bigger than we used to be, We have moved, I say we have moved,” she wrote on social media at the time.

She joined CGTN Africa in February 2021, almost a month after she left KTN under Standard Group Limited.

The news anchor resigned from KTN on January 11, 2021, after hosting the weekend’s lunchtime bulletin. She had served underneath Standard Group for two years after being poached from K24.

In April 2022, Grace and her now-husband, Joseph Kanja tied the knot in a lavish ceremony that was attended by close friends and family.

The two met while she was back at K24, with her handling the cameras at the TV station while Kanja worked as a senior graphic designer.
