On Friday, July 7, President Ruto will commence a two-day State visit to the Republic of Congo. There, he will hold bilateral talks with President Dennis Sassou Nguesso focusing on Kenya-Congo strategic cooperation.

The Heads of State will also witness the signing of legal instruments on various bilateral agreements.

"Kenya and Congo enjoy warm and cordial ties built on longstanding friendship and cooperation at bilateral, regional and multilateral levels.

"The State Visit follows the inaugural session of the Kenya-Congo Joint Commission for Cooperation, which was held by officials from both countries between June 25 and June 27, 2023," the statement added.

With Ruto gone during the three days, it leaves Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in charge of the country ahead of the Saba Saba protests by Azimio la Umoja coalition on Friday, July 7.

Azimio leader, Raila Odinga revealed that instead of the demonstrations held solely in Nairobi on that day, the protests will take place across the country in select towns at the same time.

However, he did not reveal the towns which would stage the protests on that day.

"We are here to announce that our Kamukunji meeting will take place in Nairobi this Friday, as previously announced. However, this is not just a gathering in Nairobi; it is a nationwide Kamukunji where we will launch the Third Liberation," he revealed during a press briefing at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (SKM) Center in Karen on Tuesday, July 4.

Raila distanced his coalition from participation in violence, noting that its engagement in pickets, protests, tax boycotts, and civil disobedience does not advocate violence, thus urging his supporters to picket peacefully on that day.
