The immediate family of 24-year-old Canada-based Kenyan nurse, Hellen Wendy Nyabuto, has deleted the three-hour-long Facebook video that live-streamed her drowning in a swimming pool.

Spot checks by Viral Tea on her official Facebook account revealed that the video, which had amassed over 42,000 views and 2,200 comments, was pulled down.

Her brother, Enock Magara Nyabuto, is now taking over Wendy's account, a day after her father, John Nyabuto, confirmed that she passed away following the incident.

Magara on Saturday, August 20 revealed that the family is stranded in flying her body back home for a decent burial, adding that they are still struggling to come to terms with Hellen's loss.

He hailed Wendy as their sole provider and was taking up on matters while back in the country.

"As we all know my sister Hellen Wendy passed in Ontario, Canada after drowning in the swimming pool. It is such a devastating and sad moment because she was our sole breadwinner and was the one who was in charge of everything back at home.

"She has left a very big gap that we cannot fill at the moment. All we are asking for is your support so that we can bring her body back to Kenya for burial," he appealed.

Wendy's family is now appealing to well-wishers to help them raise funds to help them bring her back home, through either mobile money transactions or a gofundme link shared on her Facebook account.

"We kindly appeal to anyone who can support us to do so. We will appreciate any little amount you can send," Magara added.

Nyabuto dismissed claims that Wendy had predicted her death, according to claims shared on social media.

He added that he learnt about Wendy's death on Thursday evening, August 18, after he received a text message from her friend which revealed to him that his daughter had drowned in the swimming pool.

“I hear some people claiming she had said on WhatsApp that she would soon die in Canada. As her father, she never shared with me any information that suggested she was in distress or any form of trouble,” he told The Standard.

Canadian authorities then called Nyabuto later that day to inform him that Wendy was rushed to the hospital and was receiving treatment. However, the caller did not inform him immediately why his daughter was hospitalised.

He stated that he went on social media and ran into the video which had gone viral on Facebook of her swimming before she drowned.

Nyabuto added that she was a sharp but calm child, who graduated from the Toronto Metropolitan University after studying oncology nursing at Kenya's Pwani University.

She moved to Canada in 2019 after getting a 10-year study visa to Canada through a Green Card lottery. In the North American country, she was balancing between studies and part-time nursing practice.
