Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday, April 19 shrugged off former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's threat to file a case against him at the International Criminal Court (ICC)

Speaking during the opening of the Deputy Governors' Consultative meeting, Gachagua laughed off the threats by Raila to sue him at the Hague-based court in the Netherlands, arguing that he was only defending his boss, President William Ruto.

The DP made it clear that they had not committed any crime to warrant the ICC to press charges against him, adding that he would take a bullet for President Ruto, whose government has been under attack by the opposition seven months into office.

"Azimio is threatening to report me at the Hague, I don't know how defending your boss can be a crime against humanity," he said.

"They have been in the streets for many years they don't even think well. How can defending your boss and his programs become a crime to be reported at the Hague?" he posed.

Gachagua warned Azimio that they would not gain much from moving to the ICC in the long run, as their request to have him probed and charged would eventually be dismissed.

"Any problem they have with anybody the solution is the ICC, please defend your bosses.

"I think they have lost their heads. If they send the letter there, it will be returned to the sender because they do not seem to understand how the ICC works," Gachagua remarked.

During an Azimio rally at Kamukunji grounds on Sunday, April 16, Raila vowed to submit Gachagua's name to the international court over an alleged assassination attempt, accusing him of sending police officers to fire 11 bullets at his car during the mass protests.

"Gachagua is an accused person, this coming week, we are taking his name to ICC, he said that he wanted to finish me once and for all," Raila said.

Azimio wrote to the ICC on Friday, April 14, citing police brutality against its members, affiliates, and media during anti-government demonstrations (Maandamano).

Azimio also told ICC that Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome had abrogated the Constitution by banning public demonstrations and arrogating the powers of the Judiciary and accused him of using a rogue police unit to target its supporters during the demonstrations.

"I see they want to intimidate the IG, but I ask you to continue doing your job professionally. Had they not come to the streets, there would have been no issue between the police and the demonstrators. So let them keep their people at home.

"IG if those people come to the street, do your job in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya. Protect the life and property of Kenyans," Gachagua responded the following day.
