The panel responsible for selecting nominees for the positions of Chairperson and Members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has shortlisted 11 candidates for the role of IEBC Chairperson.

Nelson Makanda released the final shortlist, narrowing the number of candidates for the IEBC chairperson position from 37 to 11, who have now been invited for interviews.

In a notice issued on Friday, March 14, the panel stated that interviews for the shortlisted candidates would be conducted from Monday, March 24, 2025, to Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

"Now, therefore, the Selection Panel hereby publishes the names of applicants shortlisted for the position of Chairperson and Member of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, as well as the date and time for the respective oral interviews," the notice partly read.

The 11 candidates shortlisted include:

  • Abdulqadir Lorot H. Ramadhan
  • Anne Atieno Amadi
  • Charles Ayako Nyachae (a former judge of the East African Court of Justice (EACJ)
  • Edward Katama Ngeywa (PWD)
  • Erastus Edung Ethekon
  • Francis Kakai Kissinger
  • Jacob Ngwele Muvengei
  • Joy Brenda Masinde-Mdivo.
  • Lilian Wanjiku Manegene
  • Robert Akumu Asembo
  • Saul Simiyu Wasilwa

According to the selection panel, the first candidates to appear before the panel on Monday, March 24 will be Ramadhan, Amadi, Nyachae, and Negwya.

On Tuesday, March 25, the panel will interview Ekethon, Kissinger, Muvengei, and Mudivo, while the third batch, which includes Manegene, Asembo, and Wasilwa, will be interviewed on Wednesday, March 26. The interviews will be conducted starting at 8:30 AM and concluding by 4:30 PM.

Additionally, the panel has trimmed the list of shortlisted commissioner candidates to 105, who will undergo interviews on various dates until Thursday, April 24. Among them, 32 are women.

The oral interviews will be held publicly in the Ballroom at the College of Insurance, South C, Nairobi County.

All shortlisted candidates must bring their original national identity card or passport, along with the original copies of their testimonials and certificates. However, they must ensure these documents are returned to them before leaving the interview venue.

Kenyans have been invited to submit any relevant information regarding the suitability of the shortlisted candidates for both positions. Submissions must be in writing and made under oath.

For the chairperson position, memoranda must be submitted by March 19 at 5 p.m., while those concerning commissioner applicants must be submitted by March 26 at 5 p.m.

The panel has cautioned all candidates that any attempts to influence or interfere with the selection process will result in immediate disqualification.
