The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecasted rainfall in various parts of the country from December 24 to December 30, with sunny and dry conditions expected to follow at the start of 2025.

In its weekly weather update, the weatherman predicted that the rainfall will affect regions including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, and the Coast.

The Highlands East counties include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi.

Afternoon and nighttime showers and thunderstorms are expected in several areas, occasionally reducing to a few places during the first half of the forecast period. However, the rainfall patterns could change after December 26.

"Rainfall is expected to reduce significantly after Boxing Day, with much of the country transitioning to sunny and dry conditions.

"However, during the start of the week, parts of Western Kenya, the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Central and South Rift Valley, South-Eastern Lowlands, and the Coast may still experience some showers," stated Kenya Met in part.

The Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya will remain generally sunny and dry, with nights expected to be partly cloudy. However, some areas may experience light rains on Wednesday morning.

Director of Meteorological Services David Gikungu highlighted an increase in rainfall amounts over most areas in the week of December 16 to December 22 compared to the previous week. However, the Coastal region experienced a decrease in rainfall during the same period.

Sunny and dry conditions could be prevalent in the week of December 30, 2024 and January 6, 2025.
