The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has advised Kenyans to prepare to experience a week of high daytime temperatures and low night temperatures.

In a weather forecast released on Monday, September 23 and capturing the week of September 24 to September 30, the weatherman revealed that daytime temperatures in six regions will exceed 30°C over the next seven days.

"High average daytime temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced in some parts of the Coast, the South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya," Kenya Met stated, listing the regions that will be affected.

South-eastern lowlands include the counties of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta while the Coast includes Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties.

North Eastern is comprised of the counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo while North-Western includes Turkana and Samburu counties.

Kenya Met also warned of very cold nights, with temperatures dipping below 10°C over parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and South-eastern lowlands.

Whereas most parts of the country are expected to remain generally sunny and dry, occasional rainfall is likely in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin and the Coast.

The mixture of chilly and wet conditions will present a challenge to Kenyans who are keeping themselves warm at night.

The rainfall offers Kenyans a glimpse of what to expect during the period of short rains from October, however unpredictable weather patterns mean that Kenyans should prepare for the unexpected.

In the last forecast, Kenya Met revealed that daytime temperatures decreased over several parts of the country, though Machakos and Nyahururu recorded increases.

Similarly, nighttime temperatures rose in most parts of the country, with only a few locations, such as Lamu, Laikipia, and Msabaha, recording slight decreases.
