MCA Cites Sexual Behaviour In Impeachment Motion Against Kericho Governor Erick Mutai
The motion was proposed by Sigowet MCA Kiprotich Rogony, with the MCAs accusing the governor of misappropriation of funds

Kericho Members of the County Assembly (MCA) on Tuesday, September 24 tabled an impeachment motion against Governor Erick Mutai. The MCAs are accusing the county boss of gross violation of the Constitution and other laws.
The motion was proposed by Sigowet MCA Kiprotich Rogony, with the MCAs accusing the governor of misappropriation of funds that were aimed at helping victims of the Londiani tragedy.
He was also accused of gross violation of the constitution, gross violation of various national and County laws, and misuse of office.
Part of the allegations against the governor in the notice of motion seen by Viral Tea include numerous complaints of Governor Mutai's "indecent and unnatural sexual behaviour by female partners who accuse the Governor of, for instance, forcing them to unconsented anal sex, dangerous and unprotected sex, etc."

"The Victim of the abuse seeks anonymity at this stage and the Mover of the Motion shall, at the hearing of this Motion, seek to have the Victim heard in camera to protect her identity and dignity. Further, for the sake of concealing her identity, the Victim will be identified in pseudo-name," read the accusations in part.
Governor Mutai has also been accused of failing to work despite the hefty allowances he receives.
He was also accused of leading a mob on his second day in office to invade private property. The land in question, located within Kericho town and owned by Joseah Kiplangat Kogo, was reportedly seized by the governor, who ordered the demolition of the property’s fence.
The governor then designated the parcel as an illegal dumpsite operated by the county, without obtaining consent from the rightful owner, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), or following proper legal procedures.
The motion argues that the move was in direct defiance of a court order issued by the Environment and Land Court in Kericho under Petition No. E001 of 2022, which had ruled against the use of the land for such purposes.
“The actions are illegal, contemptuous to the authority and dignity of the court and the rule of law, unethical and demeaning the office the Governor holds as a result of the actions of the governor, the county was condemned to pay the costs,” read the motion.
Further, the motion accused Governor Mutai of creating a hostile and toxic work environment for county employees. He is said to have persistently intimidated, harassed, and molested staff members, particularly those who did not align with his political views.
This is not the first time the MCAs will be plotting an impeachment motion against the governor. In 2023, a section of Kericho MCAs threatened to table an impeachment motion against Mutai over allegations of misappropriating Ksh14.5 million donated by well-wishers to respond to and help victims of the Londiani Tragedy.
In June 2024, the governor was also put on the spot for spending Ksh425.6 million meant for payment of pending bills by his administration.
