Former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, shared a video of himself getting a haircut in a barbershop that wouldn't be too typical of the lifestyle the flamboyant politician is used to.
The two-minute clip shared on his social media handles on Thursday, November 10 showed him getting his usual shave- against the rules of 'No Shave November'.
This is a whole month whereby men allow their hair to grow wild and free and donate the money they typically spend on grooming themselves, which is used to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and provide aid to patients.
No Shave November originated in 2009 in the United States, started by members of the Matthew Hill family after he succumbed to colon cancer. The family created a website whose goal was to grow awareness by embracing hair, which cancer patients lose while undergoing chemotherapy.

“Leo nanyolewa kwa kinyozi ya Ksh300. Nitafuliza tu sai. (Today, I am being shaved in a barber shop that charges Ksh300. I will just take a mobile loan),” he wrote.
While some Kenyans lauded him for supporting the small barbershop businesses, others wondered if this was a sign of his fall from grace as he was known for years for his flashy jewellery and lifestyle.
"Big Up kiongozi...Shuka mpaka kwa Wale wa Chwani na thateh Fae pia, change yako ya Mashilingi uanze kuiona kwa Kichwa in no time (Go lower until you find the barbers charging Ksh50 bob and below. Change your barber charging you hundreds you see changes in your hair in no time)," wrote IamDerroh.
"There's a place I get my haircut in Ngara I meet the likes of Captain Otoyo and other celebrities, especially at night. When you say hi to them and give them a bit of attention they start feeling very important. I have to pretend that I've never seen them in my life and I don't know them," another user commented.
Last month, Mombasa youth compelled the flamboyant politician to borrow Ksh22,0000 from a mobile platform to buy them lunch, despite insisting that he was broke,
“I’m broke, to be honest. Just stay put, you will see me Fuliza. You are 108 people. See, I've borrowed Ksh22,000,” he said.
Sonko is a popular businessman with a significant social media presence who owns several entertainment joints in Nairobi and Mombasa and has also been renowned for his philanthropic nature. Reliable sources once revealed that the former county boss is worth Ksh20 billion.
During a past interview, he revealed that he owns over 1,000 parcels of land, that’s 1,000 title deeds, which would cumulatively amount to millions of shillings according to current land rates. He has invested heavily in real estate, the matatu business and the wines and spirit business.
Before he joined politics, he was running several pubs in Eastlands and Mombasa, as well as a matatu business. The total collections from his pubs in a weekend stood at Ksh5 million.
“I saved the little money I was getting. I have not killed anyone, I do not sell drugs. At some point, I came to Nairobi and I invested where my father was.
"I own properties all the way from Lamu to Vanga. I have got over 1,000 title deeds of properties which I own. I have over 150 logbooks of cars which I own,” he told NTV.
