Kidero, Itumbi, Ngirici Lead Surprise Names of 224 Shortlisted For CAS Jobs

The Public Service Commission (PSC) on Monday, February 20 shortlisted 224 candidates for the position of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS), days after President William Ruto was allowed to appoint candidates for the post.

The list was formed from a pool of 5,183 applicants, with those nominated expected to appear for interviews beginning March 1, 2023.

Many of the candidates who appeared on the list had played a key role in Ruto's presidency and jumped ship from the Azimio la Umoja coalition as well as those who lost in the August 2022 elections.

Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi, who was recently appointed to the Talanta Hela Council is among the nominees alongside former women representatives, Millicent Omanga (Nairobi) and Cate Waruguru (Laikipia) as well as former Kisii governor James Ongwae and his deputy, Joash Maangi, who defected to the Kenya Kwanza government from Azimio, under Raila Odinga.

Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero who lost to Orange Democratic Movement's (ODM) Gladys Wanga in the battle for Homa Bay governor was shortlisted alongside Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, who lost to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Purity Ngirici, who lost to Kirinyaga County governor Anne Waiguru, was also shortlisted. Cleophas Malala, who lost to Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa, was also shortlisted.

Wilson Sossion, who lost in the Bomet senatorial race was also shortlisted. Others who made the cut include Charles Njagua (Jaguar), Gideon Keter and Caleb Kositany.

Former Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura, former KTN News presenter Mwanaisha Chidzuga and her counterpart Lindah Oguttu, former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal, former KBC journalist Bonnie Musambi, footballer McDonald Mariga Wanyama, former Nominated senator Mary Yiane, Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri and Former Lamu Senator Anuar Loitiptip also made the shortlist.

"The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed at the Public Service Commission, off Harambee Avenue Nairobi starting on 1st March 2023. The interview schedule showing the date and time is accessible on the Commission’s website," stated PSC in part.

The shortlisted candidates must bring along with them original certificates, as well as clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

They should also bring a registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), a police clearance certificate, and a self-declaration form signed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), to the interview.

"Members of the public are invited to avail any credible information of interest relating to any of the shortlisted candidates (through sworn affidavits) to the Secretary/CEO, Public Service Commission, 4th floor Commission House, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi or online through [email protected] so as to be received on or before February 28, 2023," added the statement.
