Kilifi Chief County Officer for Fisheries and Blue Economy, Rahab Karisa was on Thursday morning, July 20 allegedly stabbed to death by her house help.

The death was confirmed by Kilifi County Commander Fatuma Hadi, without giving further details.

“We don’t know the motive but we will know. We are at the scene,” she said.

Karisa returned to the country on Wednesday, July 19 from a trip to Italy. According to a private guard, the house help escaped before officers from a private firm arrived for their morning duties.

Reports claimed that the Chief Officer's body was found lying face down in a pool of blood in her bedroom and documents were scattered on the bed and floor.

Hadi added that the body which was found on the floor had stab wounds. It was moved to the Kilifi Hospital Mortuary pending an autopsy.

Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung'aro, whom she had served under prior to her death, had paid a visit to Karisa's family.

Karisa was a passionate environmental practitioner with vast experience in environmental management majorly focusing on strategic environmental and social impact assessments, conducting Resettlement Action Plans, and executing environmental conservation projects, jointly working with communities towards sustainability.

Prior to her role in Kilifi County, she worked as an environmentalist at the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) for two years and as an environmental and social performance advisor at Kenya Railways before that.

Karisa began as an intern at the National Environment Management Authority(NEMA) where she was fully responsible for receiving Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Audit (EA) reports, documenting and updating EIA and EA report registers.

"Participated in conducting general and targeted inspections and responding to environmental incident reports, processing of water quality and waste management licenses, timely preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, reviewing, classifying and writing improvement notices, drafting EIA licensing conditions and licenses and generally understanding environmental law and enforcement," she explained her role on her LinkedIn account in part.
