The family of the woman who drowned in a dam at Titanic area in Juja, Kiambu County alongside a man whose vehicle plunged identified her on Thursday, January 26.

The woman who died alongside a 39-year-old Kiambu businessman, Tirus Maina, was identified as 22-year-old Fridah Warau Kamuyu from Mathioya, Murang’a County.

Her body had been lying in Nairobi City Mortuary marked as unclaimed since January 18 when the incident occurred. The family of the deceased appeared at the mortuary and managed to identify the body as their kin, eight days since the incident occurred.

Police sources told Citizen Digital that an autopsy conducted on the body of Kamuyu revealed that she died as a result of drowning.

Further, the postmortem report indicated that she had bruises on her left arm.

Maina was reported to have been in his car with Fridah on the sidelines of Juja Dam on the day of the tragedy.

The two plunged into the dam, but Fridah who was said to have attempted to save herself was retrieved from the waters in the same evening. The man and the car were retrieved the following morning.

Maina's wife, Margaret Kiiru, shared with the media on Thursday, January 19 details of their last conversation before the Tuesday night, January 17 tragedy.

She noted that her husband had left for work the day before and had spoken on phone later that evening, disclosing that he was attending a business meeting in Juja. This would however be the last time they spoke to each other.

“My husband left home for work on Monday morning, and we spoke in the evening around 7 pm. He said he was in Juja for a business meeting, I asked what he would want for dinner and that was the last time we spoke,” she told Citizen TV.

Her husband's phone went off afterwards and it would be unreachable even for her. Her messages to him also went unanswered, a manner which worried her as he would normally respond.

She later received a phone call from one of her husband's friends, who told her to report to the Kimbo police station where she was informed of the harrowing news of his passing.

She added that her husband was an entrepreneur dealing in engineering products. The dam they were discovered at is a popular spot for locals and revellers who enjoy outdoor activities.
