Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has alleged that President William Ruto's government is planning to arrest some Members of Parliament allied to the Azimio la Umoja coalition ahead of its anti-government demonstrations on Monday, March 20.

In a statement on Friday, March 17, Ledama alleged to Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino that the plan to arrest a section of MPs was to generate confusion in the Azimio camp, which would interfere with the planned demos.

“So the plan now HE Babu Owino is to arrest some MPs to bring confusion on Monday… when the lawyers are busy trying to bail the MPs out the struggle gets disrupted… Raila Odinga the struggle continues,” Ledama tweeted.

It is the second time the Senator is claiming a political witch hunt against him after claiming that the government was seeking to arrest him and Babu, thereafter claiming that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was actively pushing for his arrest.

“Where is my friend HE Babu Owino? I understand they are after you and I, they are busy writing statements searching for a count to arrest you and I! Let me hold your brief and tell them I am ready.

“Still pushing for my arrest Mr Rigathi instead of focusing on your work? If you have anything against me please let’s proceed to court,” he alleged.

Ahead of the demonstrations, Azimio leader, Raila Odinga on Thursday, March 16 threatened to sue President Ruto over defamation claims, adding that he would move to court after Ruto claimed that he took part in the 1982 failed coup.

“I was discharged from treason charges after the courts found out that there was no evidence linking me to the 1982 attempted coup. Ruto has spoiled my name and I am going to sue him for defamation” Raila assured his supporters.

He stated that his reputation was under threat after President Ruto allegedly accused him of going against the Constitution that protects all Kenyans.

President Ruto on Wednesday, March 16 urged Raila to be true to his demands, adding that he was not being genuine with his push for mass action.

On his part, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua noted that the Kenya Kwanza government will deal with Raila once and for all.

"You can kill me, but you can't kill the spirit of Raila that lives in the majority of Kenyans.

“Even if you assassinate me, my spirit will live on. I am ready to pay the ultimate prize for Kenyans," the ODM Party Leader replied to Gachagua.
