Narok Senator Ledama Olekina on Wednesday, April 12 warned of severe consequences to the country if President William Ruto's government does not get its act together in the next two months.

In a series of statements on Twitter, the Senator warned of a scenario whereby nurses, doctors, contractors and civil servants as a whole would protest owing to the ongoing salary crisis consisting of stalemates and late payments that have generated debate between the opposition and the government.

Ledama further spelt doom for the Kenya Kwanza government as well as government parastatals in terms of their promises as it is only a matter of time before Kenyans have had enough.

"If the politics of Kenya are not fixed today, Kenya will collapse within the next two months.

"Next week contractors will demonstrate, nurses will demonstrate, doctors will demonstrate and all civil servants will also demonstrate then promise after promise will no longer gain traction even those who have taken a conscious sabbatical will come back to a destroyed economy! Wake up!" he wrote.

The legislator also poked holes in the number of bilateral and business deals signed by the Kenya Kwanza government, accusing it of putting their own interests ahead of the interests of Kenyans.

"They are dancing all the way to the bank. The deals Kenya Kwanza noise makers are signing will shock you!

"No wonder they are so bold in defending their action when a majority of Kenyans cannot put food on the table," he expressed.

He also criticised the government's move to have Cabinet Secretaries (CS) appear in Parliament for questioning under the amended Standing Orders.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki will be the first to appear before the House on Wednesday, April 12 and respond directly to MPs’ questions in a return to the old tradition where ministers - who were picked among legislators - were responding to members’ questions on the floor of the House.

"Just because you can bulldoze your agenda in parliament does not make it legal! President Ruto, having your cabinet secretaries appear on the floor of the house to answer questions from members of parliament is a violation of the Constitution. Article 153 (3) recognizes that CSs are strangers in parliament and can only appear on committees to answer questions like any other witness," he went on.

The salary crisis that has hit government institutions across the board struck the nerve of the medics, with the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) giving the government seven days ultimatum to disburse the funds, failure to which health workers should not report to work.

“Within 7 days, counties that shall have not paid the salaries and statutory deductions should not expect healthcare workers to report on duty. It is only through this, and various other recommendations made by the union to the national government in the recent past, that we - as a country - will be able to fix healthcare and make it work for all Kenyans,”

“It should worry any Kenyan of goodwill that close to 40 counties have neither paid healthcare workers their salaries nor remitted statutory deductions. The few that have managed to pay salaries have reported having arrangements with banks for overdrafts and loans,” stated KMPDU secretary general Davji Atellah.

Minority Leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi on Tuesday, April 11 demanded the urgent formation of a committee of finance experts and legislators to address the current financial crisis leading to scores of civil servants experiencing delays in being paid their salaries.
