Former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko revealed on Saturday morning, October 14 that he hosted Brian Mwenda, who was exposed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) for allegedly posing as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya to defraud unsuspecting clients, at his offices in Mombasa.

Sonko reiterated his promise to bail him out amidst a manhunt launched against him by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

In a video he shared on his social media pages, Sonko promised to drive Mwenda to DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road to record a statement.

“We are going to bail this guy out. DCI we will produce this guy to your offices, probably on Monday or Tuesday for him to record a statement,” Sonko promised.

The former county boss further assured that Mwenda was ready to face the authorities at whatever cost.

“If there are any charges to be filed against him, that's okay as he is ready to be arraigned in court,” Sonko added.

On his part, the accused, Mwenda, declared that he was ready to prove his innocence if granted the opportunity.

"I am ready to provide the actual context of what is really happening because it should be inconceivable to anyone with a brain that I have all this prowess,” the accused claimed in the video.

Sonko replied by appealing to his friends and renowned lawyers to join his course and argue any case that may be presented before Mwenda in court, in solidarity with Mwenda.

You are in safe hands, don't worry kijana, we will present you to the DCI," Sonko assured him. "I have checked his identity card and he is a young boy," he added.

LSK accused Mwenda of identity theft of one of its members, Brian Mwenda Ntwiga, by posing as a Nairobi lawyer.

The society also accused Mwenda of defrauding unsuspecting clients and ruining its reputation.

The LSK Council discovered that Mwenda used a common international fraud scheme known as Business Email Compromise (BEC) where he identified a genuine advocate status as being inactive, made contact with the secretariat to make an application for payment of his Practising Certificate but he couldn't because his email credentials are incorrect.

"Upon being allowed access to the account he took control of the portal and changed his profile picture, and the workplace and applied and paid for the practising certificate. However, his application was not processed since he was required to provide documents including the certificate of business incorporation which is an additional security measure which unless supplied and verified the application cannot be processed," LSK revealed in a statement.

LSK involved the DCI with an appeal to track down Mwenda and all his accomplices with the goal of arresting them.

Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) expressed their support for Mwenda. Kenya University Students' Organisation (KUSO) established, "allegedly, that he is a Second Year COMRADE from Chuka University Pursuing Criminology."

"He is a true testimony of what hustling means. If your degree or course doesn’t make ends meet, it's time to change goalposts," stated KUSO on social media.
