The National Police Service (NPS) has urged Kenyans with information regarding the deadly road accident involving a speeding motorcade linked to President William Ruto that took place along Ngong Road on Thursday, March 13, to report to the nearest police station.

The police stated that they had launched an investigation into the accident involving government vehicles, which led to the death of a pedestrian revealed to be a foreign national.

Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga urged Kenyans who witnessed the incident to aid in the investigations by providing information on the same.

"Following a road traffic accident that occurred today at Adams Arcade along Ngong Road involving a government vehicle, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian who is a foreign national, the National Police Service (NPS) is now handling the matter, and investigations have commenced," the statement read in part.

"We encourage anyone with information that may assist with the investigation to report to the nearest police station or through our toll-free numbers: 999, 911, 112, and #FichuakwaDCI 0800 722 203."

The National Police Service further called on motorists, pedestrians, and all other road users to exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent accidents.

Earlier reports had indicated that the man was attempting to cross the busy road as Ruto’s motorcade traveled from Lang’ata to Kibra for a project launch.

The tragic incident drew the attention of other road users who rushed to assist, only to find that the victim had already succumbed to his injuries. Videos and images shared on social media showed residents gathering around the scene, trying to identify the man, who was later covered with a cloth.

Eyewitnesses told the media that despite the accident, Ruto’s motorcade did not stop, raising concerns about security protocols and pedestrian safety during the President’s tour.

Shortly after, a police vehicle arrived, cordoned off the area, and transported the body to Nairobi City Mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted.

Authorities have since launched investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident, which sparked uproar on social media platforms and added to the intense criticism over President Ruto's development tour in Nairobi owing to controversial occurrences.

The tour has been marred by major chaotic events, and this one comes two days after goons went on a rampant looting and theft spree targeting shop owners, passengers and pedestrians along Thika Road following President Ruto's tour of Mathare and its environs.

In response to the wave of terror that swept the Mathare and Ruaraka constituencies, as well as sections of Thika Road on Tuesday, March 11, police officers launched a crackdown to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the criminal acts and ensure that public safety is restored.
