Motorists Using Mombasa Road Warned Of 4-Month Traffic Disruption
The disruption will impact drivers heading toward Mombasa from Saturday, April 19, at 10 PM, and will remain in effect until Sunday, July 20, at 6 AM.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a notice about a temporary traffic disruption along Mombasa Road near the Katani Road Junction, set to begin this weekend.
According to the announcement made on Wednesday, April 16, the disruption will impact drivers heading toward Mombasa from Saturday, April 19 at 10 PM, and will remain in effect until Sunday, July 20 at 6 AM.
"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa-bound lanes from Saturday, 19th April, 2025, at 10.00 pm to Sunday, 20th July, 2025 at 6.00 am," KeNHA noted.

According to the highways authority, the closure is to allow for the installation of fabricated footbridge beams in the area.
"KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site," added KeNHA.
This move means that motorists using several sections of the road adjacent to Syokimau Airport Road, Kiungani Road, and Katani Road bound for Athi River will have to find new routes as these will be closed.
The disruption is set to greatly affect Kenyans who had travel plans for the upcoming Easter weekend, expected to be busy with a beehive of activity.
Meanwhile, Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno announced on Tuesday that all beaches will be closed by 6 pm during the holiday period to tame the rampant issue of gangs.
"These are part of the strategies to ensure that there is seamless movement of travellers and visitors along the Kenyan coast. This is a tourist destination centre, and I therefore want to assure our people and the international community that the coastal region is safe and secure," Nuno stated.
Adding ''We have an operational order in place, and we will be having teams which will be moving around. They will be strategically placed for enforcement."
Additionally, long-distance transport firms were instructed to assign two drivers per vehicle to combat driver fatigue and help lower the number of road accidents.
Drivers found under the influence will also face arrest and be charged with multiple traffic violations.
