Music producer Magix Enga, born Njenga Chege, has made a passionate appeal for financial assistance from President William Ruto to get his life back on track, narrating his recent struggle as well as exploitation by music artists.

In a detailed Instagram statement on Wednesday, October 25, Magix Enga, who has garnered fame as a prolific beat-maker, claims that he is struggling to make ends meet despite making significant contributions to the improvement of the Kenyan music industry.

Enga, known as the “beat King” of Africa, rose to prominence with hits such as Dundaing, Watoto Na Pombe, featuring Otile Brown, and Maja, as well as Mapenzi Hisia, but revealed that he was yet to reap fruits financially from them.

He also claimed that he has been shortchanged by the artists that he has collaborated with for music projects.

"Magix Enga the most talented beat King in Africa and the rest of the world. Some of the artists that I did collaborate with took advantage of Me.

"Most of the songs that I produced i.e. Dundaing, Watoto na Pombe Otile brown ft Enga and Maja, Mapenzi Hisia and many others I'm not benefiting from them," he stated in part.

Enga went on to reveal that he is staring at unemployment after the studio in which he was using for his musical works was shut down due to rent arrears.

He also emphasized the importance of providing for his one-month-old baby boy, who depends on him for care and support.

"Right now am writing this I have a one-month-old baby boy who is depending on me. I tried to pull myself together but the studio I was working in was shut down because of rent issues," he added.

Nonetheless, the music producer expressed the belief that he is the best there is, citing some popular songs he has worked on which have since made waves in Kenya, such as Mamiondoko and Digidigi by Arrow Boy, which garnered more than 10 million views on YouTube, despite not getting a single cent for his contributions.

This revelation however ignited a fierce debate within the Kenyan music industry, with fans being divided over whether Enga’s claims are legitimate or if there is more to the story.

While some are quick to empathize with the talented producer, expressing outrage at what they perceive as exploitation, others are sceptical, demanding to hear the artists’ side of the story.

Enga went on to urge President Ruto to address his woes and provide support not just for him but also for his colleagues in the Kenyan music industry.

"Currently I don’t have a job. Our president Dr. William Samoei Ruto I urge you to please help me in whatever support you can starting from the music industry to my colleague," he pleaded.

The post, which has since gone viral, has prompted various reactions from Kenyan artists and music enthusiasts alike. Some argue that it’s essential for artists to be compensated fairly for their work, while others point out the complexities of music industry contracts and the need for a more transparent system.

In January 2023, the producer opened up about his personal struggles, revealing that he was grappling with significant challenges and expressing that he was not in a good place.

"Hey people, place life has taken me, I don't understand anything. I love you all so much. There is talent though I am not doing okay.

"Am going through a lot and I do not understand why. Somebody, please. If I wronged you, I apologize. More love to all of you," Enga said then.

Back in October 2022, he revealed to YouTuber Eve Mungai that he had embarked on a transformative journey, shaving his signature locs and quitting substance abuse.

He conveyed that his decision to cut his locks and renounce drugs marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

President Ruto by the time of publishing this story was yet to respond to Magix Enga's latest plea.
