Joel Munuve, the Nairobi Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kariobangi North ward, is dead.
According to reports, the outspoken leader passed away while receiving treatment at a well-known private hospital along Kiambu Road.
Sources claimed that Munuve was rushed to the facility after collapsing during routine duties at his ward office in Nairobi.
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko confirmed the news and extended his condolences to Munuve’s family and the greater Nairobi County community.

"Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve has passed on. My sincere condolences to his family, the entire Nairobi County assembly, and Nairobi County government fraternities. May the Almighty God give you strength, comfort, and hope during this difficult period," read Sonko's statement.
Karen MCA Anthony Maragu was among the legislators who paid tribute to the late politician, describing him as a dedicated and selfless leader who served the people of Kariobangi North with humility and commitment.
Maragu, who referred to Munuve as both a brother and a leader, said his legacy would continue to inspire and remain etched in the hearts of many.
"Deeply saddened by the loss of my brother and colleague, Hon. Joel Manuve. A selfless leader who served Kariobangi North with passion and humility," Maragu commented.
Adding "His impact will live on in the hearts of many. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again. May his soul find eternal peace."
In late 2023, Munuve drew public attention after launching a signature drive aimed at impeaching Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
The initiative stemmed from accusations of delayed bursary allocations, alleged incompetence within the county government, and rampant corruption at City Hall.
Munuve, backed by several fellow MCAs, voiced deep frustration over the governor’s leadership, pointing to poor revenue management and the growing influence of cartels in county operations.
"We need to impeach the governor; we want a forensic audit to be done. What has he done with the money that he claims he collects every day? Because how can one person buy 17 vehicles?" Munuve alleged during a press address on March 21.
As dissatisfaction grew, more ward representatives rallied behind the impeachment push, criticizing Sakaja for his apparent inability to manage the county’s revenue systems or resolve key challenges affecting public services.
