"The suspect was part of a five-man gang that included three men dressed in police uniform, who intercepted a vehicle carrying a Chinese couple before making away with Ksh4 million.

"The couple had withdrawn the cash from a bank at Chiromo in Nairobi, before heading to Kiahuria in Juja where they operate a quarry," DCI stated in part.

The gang had reportedly tailed the couple all the way to a county road and blocked their vehicle, forcing their way inside and fleeing with the cash.

DCI appealed to Kenyans to volunteer information that may lead to the suspect's arrest., circulating his photo for ease of identification.

"But as they were driving along Bob Harris road, a white Toyota Axio registration number KDD 189P intercepted their vehicle before the five thugs jumped out of the car and forcefully gained entry into their vehicle, making away with the cash.

"Should you have any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect, kindly inform our detectives through the #FichuakwaDCI hotline number 0800 722 203," added the DCI.

On November 18, 2022, a Chinese man accused two traffic officers of stealing Ksh1 million from him along Othaya Road, Nairobi, prompting investigations by DCI officers from Dagoretti.

The victim identified as Liz Zhixin said that he was headed to Junction Mall from Westlands when he was stopped by two traffic officers along Othaya Road.

He said that when he stopped he took his car keys and driving license only for one of the officers to open the back door of his Toyota Land Cruiser car where he had kept the money.

The officer then took the Ksh1 million and boarded their vehicle which has been captured in police records as a Toyota Fielder and the two officers drove away leaving behind one of the officer’s traffic cap.

DCI has been cautioning Kenyans against walking with large amounts of money on hand.
