The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) was on Friday, August 25 over the moon regarding the 1,405 staff who graduated after they received two months of training in collaboration with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

The staff called the Revenue Service Assistants (RSA) underwent rigorous training at Recruits Training College in Eldoret and were qualified to aid the authority in enhancing its mandate regarding tax collection.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who attended the graduation ceremony on behalf of President William Ruto, expressed that the Revenue Service Assistants will play a great role in boosting tax collection during the financial year 2023/24.

"Congratulations to the 1,405 graduates who successfully completed a two-month training course at Recruits Training College in Eldoret and are now qualified as KRA Revenue Service Assistants.

"As the National Revenue Collection Agency, KRA plays a crucial role in being a "Globally Trusted Revenue Agency Facilitating Tax and Customs Compliance." To live up to this call, it's essential for KRA to prioritize professionalism among its tax officers," he addressed.

Mudavadi also acknowledged the exemplary performance of the RSAs and urged them to use their skills gained during the training to support the government's transformation agenda through revenue collection.

"An important aspect of achieving integrity in tax mobilization involves the training of tax administration officers. This ensures that they are equipped to enforce compliance and maintain high standards.

KRA on its part saluted the partnership indicating that it plays a big role in the enhancement of tax compliance and helping to broaden the tax base through applicable innovations and enforcement.

"The dynamic partnership between KRA & KDF led to the rigorous training of the Revenue Service Assistants.

"The new skills and knowledge they acquired during this intensive 2-month period will empower them to execute their mandate with unparalleled proficiency and dedication," stated KRA on social media.

The KRA, in early May, advertised for revenue service assistant jobs, listing their role as overseeing the issuance of e-TIMS receipts by traders, ensuring VAT-registered traders are compliant and keeping an eye on compliance with excise regulations.

Other duties are compiling weekly and monthly reports on suspected cases of tax evasion, sending notices of seizures for products seized for excise, interception and verification of tax receipts issued by businesses and taxpayers.

The tax authority was allocated Ksh1.2 billion to facilitate the hiring process.
