The owner of Rixxos Lobby and Grill in Kitengela, Kajiado County who was caught in a viral video threatening and harassing one of her female employees over her delayed salary has been arrested.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Tuesday, December 13, Isinya sub-county Police Commander Ancient Kaloki revealed that the man, identified as James Mburu Githae, was nabbed at around 5 pm at Green Ice in Kitengela.

He was reported to be hiding there ever since the video which captured the whole incident emerged last week. Kaloki added that the embattled businessman is currently being held at the Kitengela Police Station.

The National Police Service (NPS) appealed to the woman to file a complaint against him at the nearest police station before action could be taken against him.

The video seen by Viral Tea saw the employee of the entertainment joint, demanding Mburu whom she referred to as Jaymo, to pay her the monthly salary she worked for. Meanwhile, Mburu was heard refusing to surrender to her demands that he pays her while hurling obscenities at her.

"So, I'm here for my salary and you want to hit me...," she said, to which he replied, "I'm not paying you."

While heard seemingly daring him to hit her, Mburu could be seen showing him what appears to be the number of President Ruto.

"The National Police Service has taken note of a distasteful video clip circulating on social media showing a man alleged to be the owner of Rixxos Lounge in Kitengela harassing and threatening a female employee demanding her unpaid salary.

"In accordance with the National Police Service mandate to serve and protect all citizens, we have commenced our investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, we are urging the lady in the video to file a formal complaint at any police station to enable the police to take the most appropriate legal action into the matter," the NPS stated in part.

However, the club and its employees defended Mburu arguing that the waitresses and the barman stormed the Rixxos premises and threatened the management leading to the drama that ensued.

The employees, Rixxos management added, were later released on bond to allow for investigations to continue. However, they allegedly took revenge against the joint by gatecrashing it, demanding their pay.

"After release, they came to our premises threatening the management and hence the drama began between our management and the aforesaid workers who were asking for their monthly salary and that's where we made it clear that we could not pay them until the investigation is completed," said Rixxos.

One of the employees revealed to former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko during his fact-finding visit that the woman who claimed to have been abused by the boss was actually being abusive on her end, prompting a response.

"Even the manager who was talking to them is also human. There is no way I can address you in a disrespectful way and expect that I will be polite. He is not a saint but there was no way that conversation would have been smooth and to be honest, we were all paid," she stated while her colleagues agreed with her that they were all paid.

Another employee could be heard posing why the employee was out to ruin the name of the establishment as Sonko wanted to establish the main cause of the issue.

Another lady who works at the entertainment joint uncovered a plot by other ladies who were part of the altercation, to steal Ksh700,000 from their boss. After all the female employees were summoned, the women were taken to the police station.

"They (disgruntled staff in the video) started claiming that they know prominent people, that they will bring down this place and they cannot accept being called thieves and for a fact, they did steal. Even that lady (who was in the viral video) was actually a casual worker," she said, further noting that the women claimed to have connections to Azimio la Umoja coalition leader Raila Odinga, which made the owner also claim that he was President William Ruto's friend.

She added that the woman edited the video which was shared on social media platforms and sparked an uproar. In defence, she stated that the club is only two months old, against the woman's claim that she was not paid by the establishment for six months.
