United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General, Hassan Omar on Saturday, March 29 conngratulated Mwashetani following his appointment.
“Congratulations my dear, dear, dear Brother Hon. Khatib Mwashetani on your appointment as Chairperson of the National Transport Safety Authority. A good man you indeed are. Patience, resilience and loyalty are indeed your virtues,” said Omar, who also thanked President Ruto for appointing the former lawmaker.
Khatib Abdallah Mwashetani served as the Member of Parliament for Lungalunga Constituency from 2013 to 2022. He was first elected to the National Assembly in the 11th Parliament (2013-2017) on a Forum for Restoration of Democracy-Kenya (FORD-Kenya) ticket.
He secured re-election in the 12th Parliament (2017-2022) under the Jubilee Party. However, in the 2022 general elections, he contested under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) but lost to Mangale Chiforomodo of the United Democratic Movement (UDM).
Beyond politics, Mwashetani has been a director at Manizle Ltd since 2002. He holds a background in Business Administration and Management from Moi University and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi.
His appointment comes after Bosire, a former Kitutu Masaba Member of Parliament (MP), revealed on January 18 that he held consultations before deciding that he would not accept the appointment by President Ruto to the helm of NTSA.
Via a gazette notice published on Friday, January 17, Ruto had appointed Bosire as the non-executive chairperson of the Board of Directors of the NTSA. He was to hold the post for three years.
“After consultations with a section of leadership, my family and friends, I have reached a conclusion that I have to decline this appointment. I thank the appointing authority, President William Ruto for his consideration," Bosire told Nation.Africa.
