Former Classic 105 and current Hot 96 presenter Terry Muikamba on Monday, June 5 shrugged off the despair that many had anticipated from her having lost a lawsuit whereby she was seeking Ksh5.7 million from her former employer, Radio Africa Group (RAG).

In a statement shared on her Instagram account, Muikamba bravely narrated that she sought to change the scope of the corporate environment, especially in the media industry for herself and those who would follow in her footsteps.

Muikamba added that she sought to challenge the norms in the workplace which consisted of toxic working environments, with the intention of advocating for radical reforms in the corporate industry to suit the next-generation employees.

"Two years ago, I took legal action against my former employer, it was not a decision I took lightly.

"My intention was to create awareness and encourage a transformative change in the workplace culture, not just for myself but for all current and future employees. It was about challenging the status quo and fighting against a culture that normalized toxic behaviour," she expressed.

The radio personality however saw the loss against Radio Africa as a bold step in the right direction, noting that one could not win every case he or she files against a company, even though Radio Africa in the ruling granted her only Ksh6,000 for her voice-over services and dismissed her other claims.

"It would be disingenuous to claim a complete triumph. However, I firmly believe that the pursuit of justice was never solely about winning every claim; it was about standing up for what is right.

"Though the outcome may not have been entirely in my favour, I am happy and at peace with the stance I took," she added.

Muikamba expressed the belief that her actions and those of others who have come forward have already had a significant impact; they have initiated important conversations, prompted internal investigations, and sparked a re-evaluation of policies within the media industry.

She went on to appreciate her lawyers at Andrew & Steve Advocates for the time and effort that they invested in explaining the legal processes, patiently answering her questions, and ensuring that she felt informed and empowered every step of the way.

"What truly matters is upholding the principle of a safe and healthy workplace. Moving forward, I remain resolute in my commitment to principles that transcend any legal victory or defeat.

"By sharing my story and advocating for change, I hope to inspire others to challenge and champion the values that underpin a healthy, respectful workplace," she concluded.

Also known by her real name Teresia Wanjiru Muikamba, the former drive show host sought Ksh2,160,000 as the value of an “unexpired contract” and Ksh3,502,738.68 as general damages for unlawful termination equivalent to 12 months’ pay for what she alleged was wrongful and unfair termination.

Muikamba sued Radio Africa at the ELRC court in 2021 seeking compensation in a suit where she claimed she was forced to step down from the company owing to a toxic working environment which amounted to constructive dismissal.

She cited severe, harsh, abusive treatment and harassment from the company’s director of programs Peter Sinclair which she claimed amounted to constructive dismissal as reasons for her resignation.

Justice Nzioka however dismissed her claims ruling that in accordance with the evidence adduced, Muikamba left Radio Africa Group for greener pastures despite the company offering her an enhanced package.

On January 29, 2021, Muikamba joined Hot 96 under the Royal Media Services (RMS) where she unveiled a new show alongside journalist Willis Raburu dubbed Rythm Junction, from 10 am to 1 pm.

She made a comeback at Hot 96 where she kicked off her career after serving briefly at Family Media Radio
