Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga has shown his appreciation towards residents of Bomet County who accorded Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir a hostile welcome on Sunday, November 19 that he would want to forget.

Speaking to the media on Monday, November 20, Raila criticised the CS for being aloof to the issues affecting Kenyans daily.

The incident had unfolded during a church service in Sotik where the crowd refused to remain calm and effectively stopped Chirchir's address.

"I want to express gratitude to the people of Bomet for showing CS Davis Chirchir manners because he doesn't understand the challenges Kenyans face,” said Raila.

The former Prime Minister also claimed that he encountered locals who disapproved of President Ruto's State of the Nation address in Parliament on Thursday, November 9.

Raila advocated for the Head of State to be honest with his words during his addresses and not lie to Kenyans as a variety of them have been claiming for almost the entire year.

“Even Mr. Ruto they only respected him, but they did not accept what he was saying.

"It is necessary for someone who calls himself a president to always speak the truth. Speak the truth; the truth does not rot,” Raila continued.

CS Chirchir kept trying to make his remarks but the crowd rendered his speech inaudible, even though he was trying to get a personal connection with them by use of the local dialect.

Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, serving as the emcee, had to intervene to restore order and rescue the Cabinet Secretary from the hostile reception.

"Thank you so much, Your Excellency, thank you for coming to pray with us today here in Sotik, it's like home for me. As far as the electricity situation goes, we are going to fix it," the CS stated in his short speech.

However, the crowd shouted him down and asked him to remain in his seat, with the residents basing their anger on the frequent power blackouts which have made it difficult for them to consistently carry out their duties.

CS Chirchir has been on the spot with Kenyans blaming him for the high cost of fuel, etched by remarks he made warning of an increase in fuel prices to Ksh300.

During the Monday address, Raila called for Chirchir as well as his Treasury counterpart Njuguna Ndung'u to resign, accusing them of committing criminal offences, abusing office and going against the Constitution.

"They stole money from the consolidated fund in addition to spending monies way above what Parliament approved. They must not only resign but also be prosecuted," Raila demanded.
