The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has appointed Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Chairperson Anthony Mwaura to chair its National Elections Board (NEB).

The appointment was announced on Tuesday, April 2 by UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire who was addressing the media at the Party's headquarters in Nairobi.

This followed the National Steering Committee (NSC) meeting chaired by President William Ruto.

Mwaura will be deputized by Veronica Kiberenge. Other members of the elections board are Linda Kiome, Jimmy Kaindi, Mary Muting’a, Halake Dida and Lydiah Munika.

It is worth noting that Mwaura served in the same post at UDA before his appointment to KRA on November 17, 2022, taking over from Francis Muthaura, who served as KRA chairman since May 2018.

Meanwhile, Mbarire announced that the elections will be conducted in four phases starting with the first phase set for April 26, 2024. This will take place in Nairobi, Narok, West Pokot, Busia, Homa Bay, and Garissa Counties. 

Phase two of the elections will take place on June 22, 2024, in Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Machakos, Kisii, Bungoma, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Wajir, Tana River, Kwale and Marsabit Counties.

The third phase will be conducted on August 10, 2024, in Kiambu, Embu, Kericho, Meru, Migori, Kakamega, Nyamira, Kitui, Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu, Kajiado, Mndera, Kilifi, Muranga and Lamu Counties.

“Phase four will be conducted on August 24, 2024, in the following counties; Nakuru, Bomet, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nandi, Baringo, Turkana, Laikipia, Trans Nzoia Kisumu, Vihiga, and Makueni,” Mbarire stated.

The Embu Governor noted that the elections would be conducted electronically to ensure it is free and fair.

“Upon completion of the grassroots election in all the counties, the UDA will conduct the ensuing county national elections of the party by December 2024,” she added.

The party also constituted the electoral dispute resolution committee (EDRC) consisting of Joy Mdivo (Chairperson), Dr Adrian Kamotho (Vice Chairperson), Hellen Makone, Yvonne Cherop, Dr Duncan Ojwang, Dr Kaberia Isaac, Babra Japan and Hajichi Joseph and Zipporah Karimi.

Additionally, UDA also reconstituted the internal dispute resolution committee mandated for other disputes not related to elections.

UDA appointed Narok Woman Representative Rebecca Tonkei as chairperson and former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar as the vice chair.

Other members include Dr Joshua Ong’era, Leah Manyarkei, Samuel Kariuki, Bishop Robert Theuri and Ronaldo Shako.
