With Christmas Day less than 24 hours away, former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, December 23 decided to honour the festive season in a unique fashion.

He toured multiple children's homes in parts of Nairobi and Kiambu counties and surprised the children with various gifts.

In photos shared on social media, Uhuru paid a visit to Garden Home and School in Uthiru, Mama Fatuma Goodwill Children’s Home, and Gatundu Children’s Home to spread the Christmas cheer with the children as Kenyans prepare to mark the annual holiday.

In one of the homes, he surprised the children with two 'happy holidays' cakes before they took part in having their photos taken.

"H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday presented Christmas gifts to children at various homes including Children’s Garden Home and School in Uthiru, Mama Fatuma Goodwill Children’s Home and Gatundu Children’s Home.

"It is a season to make merry and to also share with others," wrote digital communications strategist Pauline Njoroge, who shared the photos on Saturday, December 24.

This is the first time Uhuru is celebrating Christmas with children outside State House since he handed over power to President William Ruto on Tuesday, September 13.

In December 2021, Uhuru hosted children of staff working at State House and treated them to a Christmas party, alongside former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.

"His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta are today hosting a Christmas party for the children of State House staff at State House, Nairobi.

"Children from various children's homes have also been invited to the day-long party that features an array of entertainment activities among them live music, bouncing castles, face painting and video games among others," Uhuru's press team said at the time.

His successor, President Ruto, continued from where Uhuru left off, though in his case it was a special one because, on Wednesday, December 21, he celebrated his 56th birthday as well as his wedding anniversary with his wife, Mama Rachel Ruto.

In the day-long fete, the children were treated to an assortment of entertainment activities; among them live music, bouncing castles, face painting and video games, among others.

“All of you, as children of Kenya, you are the very reason why we as parents work hard to give you a chance to be your best,” President Ruto told the children.

On her part, the first lady thanked the State House staff for their dedication and service to the nation’s highest office.

“We want to say thank you so much to the parents for the work that you continue to do in State House and in the Office of the President, we appreciate you,” said Rachel.
