Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has forgiven Governor Anne Waiguru despite still accusing her of allegedly orchestrating an attack on her by goons during a meeting she was attending in Kerugoya Town in August.

While addressing the residents during the commissioning of link roads in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, Maina revealed to President William Ruto how the incident occurred and claimed that she could still identify the perpetrators who committed the atrocious act on her and her supporters.

However, the MP forgave the attackers in a surprise turn of events and urged them to preach peace.

Furthermore, she claimed that police who were handling the investigations had assured her that they would arrest the attackers who were present at the event.

"While you were away, there were people who had plotted to kill me and I pray that let's practice peace when engaging in politics. Since I don't want to keep a grudge, Governor Anne Waiguru I have forgiven you, even those suspects you sent to attack me, I have forgiven them as well," Maina stated.

"I can see them here, I have spoken to the County Commissioner, Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO), and County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO), and they have assured me that within one week, they will be brought to book because we must follow the law."

Waiguru on her part, who had earlier addressed the residents, did not touch on the issue but urged President Ruto to consider the affairs of Kirinyaga County while planning the revised budget in February 2024.

"The road linking Kangumo and heading to Kangaita, the budget is around Ksh2 billion. The amount already dispatched is Ksh200 million. I request the president to consider adding the amount when doing the revised budget in February so that the road can be completed," she pleaded.

On August 22, 2023, chaos erupted during a meet-the-people tour attended by Maina when a group of rowdy youth blocked her from addressing the public.

She was ferried to Kerugoya Hospital for medical attention before being airlifted to Nairobi for a medical emergency, with photos showing her head shaved with medics pushing her on a wheelchair towards a waiting helicopter, indicating that she incurred injuries on her head.

While admitted at Nairobi Hospital, Njeri was visited by her colleagues, including Moses Wetangula, National Assembly Speaker, Josses Lelmengit, Emgwen MP, Woman Representatives Linet Chepkorir Toto (Bomet) and Esther Passaris (Nairobi) and Eric Muchina, Kerugoya Ward MCA.

Waiguru, in her response, distanced herself from Maina's attack and gave the MP seven days to withdraw alleged defamatory statements as well as issue an apology.

“Our Client is the Governor of Kirinyaga County and the Chairperson of the Council of Governors. She is held in high esteem by the public at large. Your recklessness has caused and continues to inflict damage to her image and reputation,” Waiguru's lawyers wrote to the MP.

Police arrested five people in connection with the attack and were arraigned in court on Thursday, October 12, with details regarding more suspects on the loose as claimed by the woman representative remaining unclear.
