Roots party, under George Wajackoyah, announced changes in its structure on Tuesday, August 30.

The party revealed the names of individuals in administrative positions following a resolution by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) in a meeting held at the party offices in Karen, Nairobi last week.

In the new changes, Yagnik Vinod Ramji will be the Deputy Party leader. Naran Velji Arjan will be the Chief Executive Officer and Janet Akinyi Odhiambo will be the new deputy national chairperson.

"Following a resolution by Roots Party National Executive Committee, (NEC) in a meeting held at the party head office we confirm the appointment of new party officials," the party announced in a notice.

Wajackoyah's estranged running mate, Justina Wamae, was notably missing from the list of appointments, with reports revealing that she was to only serve as his running mate for the August 9 general elections, afterwhich she had no role in the party.

Wamae was summoned by the Roots Party for a disciplinary hearing after she was accused of failing to adhere to the Constitution of the roots party as well as its manifesto over recent comments that downgraded the party, including those that claimed that Wajackoyah was supporting former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.

Wamae was also accused of continuously and maliciously misrepresenting the position of the party and that of the party leader having blocked him and other party officials.

"We have been instructed by the Party Leader, Professor George Wajackoyah (herein referred as “the Party Leader”), with respect to your position as the running mate to the just concluded general elections, and your current utterances both in the mainstream media and social media.

"That in line with the above and your failure to adhere to the Roots Party Constitution and manifesto, the Party finds it in order, to invite you for a disciplinary hearing on August 26, 2022, at 2:30 PM, at the Party’s head office," a demand letter by the party read in part.

Wamae confirmed through her Twitter account that she will honour the summons, further urging the entities copied in the demand letter to attend as members of the disciplinary committee.

The entities included the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the Secretary Generals of Agano Party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Azimio la Umoja coalition, the Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC), the Political Parties Tribunal and local media houses.

However, when she reported to the venue for the disciplinary hearing, she was met by a contingent of police officers who denied her entry into the party offices.

Police manning the gate barred her from accessing the headquarters ahead of her disciplinary hearing.
