Kenyans on the internet could not get enough of the Kenya Defence Forces' (KDF) creativity after launching a weekly news show on Friday, October 28.

The first episode of the news bulletin was presented by Private Kibwanga Ferdinand and will cover weekly updates mainly concerning the military as well as stories inside the world of the defence forces that would be of importance to its viewers.

“Welcome to our end-of-the-week news bulletin, my name is Private Kibwanga Ferdinand. The KDF Weekly Bulletin is an initiative collating events of the week and providing in-depth information on defence matters and this is our first broadcast,” Kibwanga welcomed Kenyans.

The show will be presented every Friday and Kenyans can watch the episodes through its YouTube and Facebook pages, with the first episode nearly eight minutes long. The next episode will feature its first full-length interview.

This is however compared to some local news bulletins which last up to 30 minutes and prime-time bulletins lasting an hour or more.

Kenyans praised the KDF for its creativity and mastery, especially on the introduction sequence as well as highlighting of stories from the grassroots in line with its mandate...the military.

The show was produced at its state-of-the-art TV and radio studio that was launched back in November 2021, termed the Strategic Communications Office at the Defence Headquarters.

The office was opened by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Robert Kibochi in order to help them communicate effectively with members of the public.

“The new office block has a state-of-the-art fully-equipped television and radio studios for various productions that will enable a continuous flow of information to Kenyans and the wider audience,”

“KDF considers Strategic Communication as a vital activity that will support future military operations as well as the national interest,” read the statement.

It added that the KDF Communication department was established in the year 2009 as Public Affairs and has over time told KDF stories both in operations at in peacetime.

"In 2021, the KDF command established Strategic Communication to be able to achieve communication objectives in the ever-changing threat environment,” KDF stated.

While officiating the launch, General Kibochi noted that information dissemination was vital in the military due to their role in protecting Kenyans.

"The CDF lauded the efforts of the Strategic Communications team office in informing and shaping the public opinion on Kenya Defence Forces’ activities and engagements. He noted that information is an instrument of power and KDF is committed to ensuring effective communication of all KDF operations,” read the statement in part.

Also in attendance was renowned media personality and Citizen TV journalist, Jeff Koinange.
