A multi-agency security team comprising Kenyan law enforcement personnel on Wednesday, September 13 conducted a raid on an Al-Shabaab camp in Garissa County and killed four militants.

The morning attack staged on the camp of the notorious terrorists was carried out by the elite officers who acted on a tip-off from members of the public privy to the militants' operation.

The officers at the scene of the operation ambushed an unidentified number of Al Shabaab militants while they were manufacturing bombs in the form of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Police reports indicated that the four militants were killed following a gunfight and the materials used to make IEDs seized in the process.

"The officers seized IED materials, ammunition, and medical supplies. A number of militants also escaped with bullet injuries.

"These supplies could have been used to treat wounded Al Shabaab fighters, so their removal will make it more difficult for the group to sustain its operations," the police report read in part.

The multi-agency security team comprising of members of the National Police Service, National Intelligence Service and Kenya Defence Forces thanked the villagers for the valuable information that led success of the operation.

"The success of the operation is a testament to the corporation between locals and officers," the statement commended the team effort shown between the security organs and local villagers in warding off insurgency across Kenyan borders.

On Sunday, September 10, a number of Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers were injured after a vehicle they were travelling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Lamu County.

According to a statement by KDF on Monday, September 11, the soldiers were on patrol along the Milimani Baure road when the incident occurred.

"On 10th Sept 2023, KDF soldiers on patrol along the Milimani Baure road in Lamu County ran over an IED.

"The injured were airlifted to Manda Base Hospital for medical care," stated KDF in part.

Lamu County has been a key operational area of the Al-Shabaab militia who have been terrorising residents and staging attacks against the police, which have left several people dead including police officers.

The Kenyan forces have however intensified more patrols even as the government vows to crush the notorious Al-Shabaab terrorist group, whose militia is believed to have secured Boni forest as their hideout and operational area.

The Kenyan forces have been carrying out attacks in response to the invasion of Al Shabaab in northern Kenya. However, the militia group responded in a daring fashion with numerous attacks in Kenya, including the 2013 Westgate Mall attack in Nairobi, which killed 67 people.
