Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's Chief Agent, Saitabao Kanchory was at a loss to respond to Uasin Gishu Woman Representative-elect Gladys Boss Shollei schooling her regarding the chaos at Bomas of Kenya on Saturday, August 13.

Speaking to KTN News, Shollei noted that Saitabao broke multiple election rules when he stormed the auditorium designated as the National Vote Tallying Centre by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) amidst the chaos and went ahead to seize the microphone on the VIP dais.

Shollei believed that by him being appointed the chief agent of the Azimio la Umoja coalition, he was subject to being an official of the IEBC under a code of conduct and having taken an oath of secrecy, regulations he broke on that night.

To make matters worse, Shollei accused him of committing multiple offences streamed across TV stations, with millions of Kenyans watching the entire saga unfold.

"Any disruption that you do in an electoral area is an election offence. Attacking the electoral commissioners and officers, even a clerk at the polling station is an election offence. When you are appointed as a chief agent, remember that you are actually an election official with the code of conduct, you're supposed to sign the oath of secrecy and so on.

"Instead, you flaunted that. By the time a whole senator elected in this country goes to an electoral area or where the commission is doing its work and attacks the officials with a rungu, causes fracas and even taking over the microphone of the electoral commission is an electoral offence. So yes, you have committed multiple electoral offences live on camera," she noted.

Saitabao, seemingly cracking under pressure, responded to her with "Arrest me", at which she replied, "No, that's not my job to do."

The Azimio agent's failed moment under the spotlight was part of the heated debate whereby he was determined to prove that there were irregularities in the presidential election results, which the coalition claimed IEBC was responsible for.

He admitted that he could not work with the commission's chairperson, Wafula Chebukati, informing Raila that he was not credible enough to run a national poll.

"As soon as I was appointed Azimio's chief agent, I said that I could not work with Chebukati as the IEBC chairman. One of the things that we told our principal Raila Odinga is that this man cannot run a legitimate exercise. Because Raila is a nice person, he told us that we should trust him and we did that at our own peril," Kanchory stated.

Shollei on her part revealed that she alerted the IEBC officials of errors in the results, which saw Raila lose 500 votes at a certain constituency, a matter she had to step up in as the Azimio agents were unprepared for the whole process.

"Every time that I would find an error, I would go and inform the IEBC commissioner Francis Wanderi who was present at the time. I remember at some point that some members of the Azimio faction accosted one of the IEBC officers to prompt why I possessed a piece of paper."

"I showed them that I was correcting an error where Raila was losing 500 votes. So the fact is, they (agents) were not doing their jobs. They lie to baba and mislead him while they know the truth. I asked myself how unlucky is Raila to be surrounded by people who are not truthful," Shollei stated.

Saitabao replied by saying that Shollei's statement had proved their claims that Raila's actual results were interfered with.

The presidential results are being contested at the Supreme Court, with the seven-judge bench set to rule on the matter on Monday, September 5.
