An autopsy conducted on four people gunned down at Buru Buru Phase 5 Estate in Nairobi County on Sunday, December 24 revealed that they died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Locals had revealed on Sunday that the incident occurred minutes before 3 am when the four men were gunned down, with images showing a vehicle they were in sprayed with bullets.

A second vehicle belonging to a resident also sustained damage, leaving him to bear the cost.

"At around 2.30 am, I received a call and I was told that my car had been shot at. I went to inspect and saw it had been damaged by bullets," the owner stated.

The autopsy came as one more family identified their son as Benson Mwangi, who suffered five gunshots, while the cousins, Julius Mwangi was shot six times and Brian Mwangi 11 times.

One body of a man believed to have been the driver of the ill-fated vehicle, a Suzuki Swift, is yet to be operated upon as no family member was present to identify the deceased.

In what represented the gory nature of the crime, the driver was fatally shot in his seat leading to his upper body falling onto the passenger seat. The man in the front passenger seat appeared to have attempted to escape before he was shot in the head.

The others who also seemed to have attempted to escape were shot. Their bodies were discovered lying next to each other near the vehicle with the doors wide open.

The early morning shootout occurred near Buruburu Police Station, with preliminary reports indicating that the shootout was orchestrated by unidentified gunmen.

Police had maintained that the deaths of the four men were not a result of police action, stating that a manhunt was launched for the armed perpetrators who followed the quartet in a Toyota Prado when they opened fire.

The officers also recovered an identity card and two daggers from the vehicle belonging to the deceased.

A section of Kenyans were angered by the slow pace at which the police dealt with the matter, questioning why the bodies were still at the scene hours after the shooting.

The mother of one of the deceased, while speaking to journalists on Tuesday, December 26, wondered what wrong the men had done and if there was any, why it was not reported to the police.

"Everyone makes a mistake and if there was a problem there is the law, if they had wronged anyone why couldn't the matter be taken to the police? They had not stolen the car, and no gun was found in the vehicle so why spray them with bullets?" the heartbroken mother posed.

The families urged the relevant authorities led by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to intervene and unravel the mystery of how the men were killed a few metres from the Buru Buru Police Station.

The families also expressed concern about why the officers from the police station failed to show up when the gunshots were fired at 2.30 am.
