Popular gospel DJ Samuel Muraya, better known as DJ Mo, is currently recovering in a hospital after an attack by suspected robbers armed with pangas near Kenol, Murang'a County, on Friday, March 13.

In her message, Size 8 revealed that the attackers were armed with pangas and managed to escape with Muraya’s phone before fleeing, leaving the DJ wounded but alive following the tense incident along the highway corridor.
“Today, I post to give God glory for safeguarding my husband's life, DJ Mo. He was in Kenol when thieves attacked him with a panga and took his phone," she said.
Despite the frightening ordeal, Size 8 maintained that she remained grateful her husband survived the attack, stressing that his life had been spared. “Dear God, thank you for life,” she wrote.
DJ Mo sustained injuries to his arm, which videos circulating online suggest included deep cuts from the panga attack. It remains unclear whether he suffered additional physical injuries.
Over the years, DJ Mo has grown into one of the most recognisable figures in Kenya’s gospel entertainment industry, playing a major role in elevating gospel DJing into a respected craft capable of competing with mainstream secular entertainment.
After breaking onto the scene around 2010, he steadily built a strong following through his distinctive music mixes and large audiences.
Through his talent platform System Unit, Muraya has also mentored upcoming DJs and dancers, helping shape a new generation of performers influencing gospel-inspired entertainment across Kenya and the wider East African region.
His long-standing role as resident DJ on the gospel show Crossover 101 on NTV Kenya between 2011 and 2021 further boosted local gospel music by giving emerging artists a national television platform that helped many reach audiences far beyond church congregations.
Muraya has also advocated for more creative approaches in gospel music, encouraging artists to embrace modern sounds and styles so their message resonates with younger listeners navigating today’s rapidly evolving digital entertainment landscape.
Following news of the attack, fans, members of the gospel fraternity, and figures from the comedy industry flooded social media with messages wishing him a quick recovery.
Among those who sent their well-wishes were gospel singer Guardian Angel, comedian Millie Chebby, and entertainer Kabi Wa Jesus.
