Bomas Of Kenya Sold To Turkish National: Gachagua

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that the Bomas of Kenya in Lang'ata, Nairobi, has been sold to a well-known Turkish national.
Gachagua made the admission while speaking at a church event in Kitengela, Kajiado County, on Sunday, March 9, where he revealed that the sale was made despite his objections during a Cabinet meeting when he was the second-in-command.
"On matters of corruption, I told the President that we promised the people of Kenya that we would work for them, but the government has become pure thieves. As we speak, Bomas of Kenya has been sold to a Turkish citizen. It has gone," he revealed.
"It was brought up in Cabinet, I opposed it, all by myself. The rest were scared; when they saw the President, they were shaken. I'm the only one who stood in Cabinet and said that Bomas of Kenya is a national heritage and we cannot sell it."

Gachagua further revealed that the plan was further opposed by civil aviation stakeholders who argued that Bomas was below a flight path to Wilson Airport, thus any revamp works would be dangerous, a matter which prompted Gachagua to act tough against the President to shelve the plan...until his eventual impeachment.
"We are on our own as a country. Ruto has two years to do everything he wants. The other day, you saw who has joined him in government," Gachagua continued.
On August 8, 2023, the Cabinet approved plans to expand the Bomas of Kenya into an ultra-modern facility touted to be the biggest convention centre in Africa.
Dubbed the Bomas International Convention Centre (BICC), the convention was to feature a conference centre, presidential pavilion and at least five hotels. The expansion of the current Bomas of Kenya facility was for the purpose of growing Kenya to being a preferred destination for global meetings, conferences and exhibitions.
Meanwhile, Gachagua explained why he intentionally postponed the launch of his political party due to concerns that the government might hinder his plans, citing several unnamed elements in the government. According to him, he was prepared to announce his party but had to reconsider his plans, taking his political rivals into account.
"The party is ready. It is like a brand-new car in the showroom. I wanted to launch it, but powerful individuals had their own plans. Between the stage and the showroom, he might throw obstacles in our path. I hope you understand," he said.
Gachagua also disclosed that the national chairperson of his soon-to-be-launched party would come from Kajiado County.
After multiple unsuccessful attempts to unveil his "political vehicle," Gachagua announced in February that his new party would be introduced in May 2025, though he withheld further details. The launch is scheduled to take place in Nairobi to accommodate supporters traveling from across the country.
As the political landscape evolves, Gachagua appears to have aligned himself with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and People's Liberation Party chief Martha Karua to build a strong coalition to challenge the Kenya Kwanza administration in the upcoming elections.
However, Gachagua faces a significant challenge, as his team will be competing against a faction led by the top two candidates who collectively secured the majority of votes in the 2022 general election.
