CS Bore Angers MPs After Skipping Wetangula Summons Twice

According to Ichung'wah, the CS should have written to the National Assembly Business Committee last week to notify them that she would not appear on July 5.

Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore on Wednesday, July 5 drew the wrath of Members of the National Assembly after she was found to have ignored summons issued by Speaker Moses Wetangula.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah accused the CS of dishonouring the August House by not appearing despite two invites issued by the Speaker.

The Majority leader vowed not to let any Cabinet minister act in defiance towards the very same Members of Parliament (MP) who had vetted her following her nomination and gave the green light for President William Ruto to appoint her in the Labour docket.

“Being a former member of this House, she must know that on Thursdays there is a statement from the House Business Committee that schedules business for the following week. She didn’t write this letter on Friday, she has written this letter today. That is why I have said it is not just discourteous, it is contempt to the House,” said Ichung’wah.

“We must make it clear as a House that we shall not allow any Cabinet Secretary, however powerful you are, however mighty you may perceive yourself, to hold the people’s representatives with contempt and the institution of Parliament."

The Kikuyu MP went on to warn other CSs that he and his colleagues will do all it takes to protect the Constitutional mandate of the House.

“We will do whatever it takes, all members of the Cabinet know what it can take to protect the constitutional mandate of this house and of parliament,” Ichung’wah added.

Ichung'wah was unusually backed up by Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi who argued that the CS had a record of mistreating MPs despite their patience.

"I have received numerous reports that this particular Cabinet Secretary has a habit of disregarding Members of Parliament and for that reason, we will deal with her as per the Law.

"I will be the first person to second a motion of impeachment against CS Bore since what she has done is a gross misconduct not just to the National Assembly but also against the people of Kenya who employed her," he promised.

Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala in a similar fashion claimed that the CS was trying to cook up another scandal and rope another one of the MPs as was the case in Karen in mid-June.

"There are a number of allegations against this particular Cabinet Secretary including something that happened in Karen. We now know what really happened against one of our own.

"We will defend our responsibility including calling on MPs to force her out of office for defying the orders and invitation of the Speaker," Wanjala threatened.

CS Bore wrote to the House saying she would fail to appear for the plenary session as she was engaged in an official engagement outside Nairobi County. She, therefore, asked the House to reschedule the session to Wednesday, July 12, 2023.

She was embroiled in a bitter battle against Gatanga Member of Parliament (MP) Edward Muriu over a contested mansion in Karen valued, by the owner, at Ksh120 million.
