A Twitter user by the moniker Dee_Kiluu shared CCTV footage of her neighbour's house being robbed by two daring men in broad daylight on Wednesday, October 26.

The footage seen by Viral Tea and which has since gone viral on the social media platform showed the two burglars coming out of the house in turns at 2.02 pm in Makongeni area, Thika, Kiambu County.

One of them emerged from the residence with an electronic device that was covered in a Maasai shuka held in his right hand and a reusable bag with unknown contents.

He appeared to hesitate first before peeping into the house to check on his colleague behind him before walking off from the view of the lens.

But seconds later, his colleague emerged from the house carrying a carpet that concealed another electronic device and closed the door behind him before confidently walking away with the contents.

The occupant of the house was not present during the time of the incident.

Speaking to Viral Tea, Kiluu revealed that the two culprits made away with two television (TV) sets, each covered in the Maasai shuka and the mat as well as a laptop and money.

"The first guy covered the TV with a Maasai shuka, the other covered the TV using a mat. They stole two TVs, a laptop, a mat and money," she said.

She added that Ksh10,000 was stolen in the incident, as well as one of the TVs, a 32-inch worth Ksh20,000, a 43-inch worth Ksh32,000 and the laptop worth Ksh45,000, a total worth of Ksh107,000.

She has since appealed to Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) to volunteer information that may aid in tracking down the suspects. A section of them appealed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Police Service (NPS) to act on the issue.

Nairobi, Kiambu Counties Top Police List of Unsafe Counties

Kiambu County was ranked second behind Nairobi among unsafe counties with high crime rates in the country, according to an NPS report on Thursday, October 13.

Nairobi was number one with 6,686 cases, with 1,129 being assault cases. Kiambu was second with 5,715 cases, and Meru County was third with 5,032 incidents.

Nakuru and Machakos were fourth and fifth with 4,281 cases and 3,275 cases, respectively. The data released by the police covered the period between January - December 2021 and further gave a projection for 2022.

In total, the country recorded 81,272 cases. During the same period in 2020, the country recorded 69,645, marking a 16 per cent increase.

Under the category of other offences against persons, assault was the most reported, with 15,969 cases, followed by stealing, which had 11,762 cases.

6,366 defilement cases were also recorded in the period under review. However, the police projected that the crime rate would reduce in 2022.

"This shows that if all factors remain constant, crime levels may drop slightly in 2022 to below the 72,000 mark. Thus, decisive policing strategies have to be put in place to curb the current crimes," NPS stated.
