Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based at DCI Starehe on Wednesday, May 24 launched a manhunt for three suspects who raided a drinking joint at Ruaraka’s Kasabuni area in Nairobi County.

DCI revealed in their report that the thugs gained entry into the club on Tuesday, May 23 and ordered all revellers to lie down before ransacking their pockets and fleeing into the darkness.

"The three miscreants who were armed with a firearm initially posed as vagabonds of unsound mind carrying sacks on their backs, before entering Reke Marie pub to seek for alms," stated the DCI in part.

Their entry went unnoticed as the revellers continued to party the night away and celebrate with all manner of drinks, presuming that they were merely madmen.

However, one of them brandished his firearm and commanded the revellers to lie down, a matter which swiftly silenced the nightclub with the exception being the stereo system playing a popular song in the local dialect.

"All this while, the revellers who were unperturbed by the trio’s presence continued corroding their oesophagal glands with impunity as they downed cold swallows until one of the presumed madmen whipped out a firearm and ordered everyone to lie down!

Kila mtu lala chini! (Everyone to lie down)’’ ordered the thugs as the pub suddenly went quiet, save for the stereo that continued playing C.D.M Kiratu’s oldie hit song Kaba Kuinuka. One of the revellers who seemed to have imbibed one too many retorted “Kari inyui aa?” (because who are you?) as his mate quipped “dukire wee!” (shut up!) They are miscreants!" added the DCI.

The thugs then had a field day ransacking their pockets for mobile phones, cash and other valuables.

However, as they made their exit, a reveller who was drunk as a fiddle and couldn’t keep his mouth shut burst out unprintable words related to the canines family, much to the chagrin of his drinking mates who feared for their lives.

One of the worried revellers whispered “Maina niugutuneana!,” (You will deliver us Maina!)" as the thugs responded by firing two gunshots in the air, drawing the attention of police officers on patrol, who immediately rushed to the scene.

"However, by the time of their arrival, the thugs had vanished into darkness.

"Two empty cartridges of 7.62mm were collected at the scene. Meanwhile, police are pursuing leads into the whereabouts of the thugs masquerading as beggars," added the DCI.

On the same day of the daring robbery, police officers from Kabete Police Station apprehended two suspected criminals on Tuesday, May 23.
